Hi.

Installed the beta software & it works very well. Was really suprised at just how well it worked.

BUT:

For some reason it causes the CPU to run at 100% with a temp of over 80c!!

It's caused by process hbplug. Even force quitting the process, it starts immediately again.

I've a MacBook Pro, and this sort of activity will kill the battery in no time. The only way to cure this was to fully remove the software. (it really should come with an uninstaller!!)

This is a huge shame as it is totally unusable with this issue.

Not sure if a new version would help as may need a new activation code.

Will be happy to try again if this is sorted.

@Spikesclone I had the same problem. I first uninstalled it like you did.

Than I realized the following. Not sure if it all makes sense but it worked for me:
I think this is because Pogoplug remote access is active and you probably have the default list of folders shared there. This means your system is going through all those files making thumbnails of pictures etc. This takes a lot of CPU power and takes quite a while if there are many files to remotely access. What I did is to turn Remote access off at once after installing the software. Removing all the shares and later turning it back on with only a limited number of folders did the trick for me. Later you can add more folders as you go along.

It would be best if this indexing process could take place in the background not taking up all the resources as it does now.

Hope Cloud engines could still fix this in a next release.

@TRK

Many thanks for the reply.

You are correct, I did have all the default directories listed.

I did as you suggested, and guess what? You're right!!

I added one directory at a time, starting with a small one, watched the CPU build up as it indexed the files, then it settled down after it finished.

I agree with you, this needs to be fixed, preferably with background indexing, but what would be very helpful, is if Cloud Engines mentioned this might/would happen!!

Thankyou again for your helpful advice!!

Real quick....how do you uninstall the software completely? I removed from Applications folder, and removed the prefrences pane. But I still see the hbplus activity taking up alot of CPU. How do you remove? Thanks!

Hi, I used an application called AppDelete

http://www.reggieashworth.com/appdelete

There is a Trial version too. It's only $7.99, the developer is very helpful, and it comes in very handy to remove software like this that has files hidden everywhere. It removes System Preference files too, which is where I think hbplug process seems to be coming from.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the comments. For the production release tomorrow the new installer first asks which folders you want to enable by default, so this issue will be easier to control. We are also working on better optimizing the thumbnail generation to not peg the cpu in certain conditions.

In the next version we will be including an uninstaller, but for now please write to support@pogoplug.com and they will send you a script to do the uninstall.

@Jed,

I still have two issues with the drive software.

1. Can you have a look at the behavior of the drive software on Mac in case programs as Pathfinder or Forklift are used? I'm using both and folders are not refreshing/updating if new files are added on remote drives (Pogoplug, Dockstar or PC sharing folders online).

If I only use Finder to transfer files. I sometimes need to go back to a parent folder coming back to the child folder to see files being updated. But with Pathfinder or Folklift I always need to reload all drives to see changes take effect.

--------------------

2. On my PC I often get the message that remote folders (on my Mac only) are not available although they should be accessible.
I can not reproduce a specific scenario for this. But it happens from time to time.
--------------------

Thanks!

I am still at a loss as to what hbplug actually does. Does it index the folders on my main disk? Is this a (lengthy) one time process?

I tend to get nervous when I watch my CPU being busy like hell and not knowing what this is all about.
