I have the same problems, I had 2 drives online prior to joing this beta. I can see my drives through my iPhone but not on my primary laptop
My 2 drives are no longer mounted on my computer. I can see them in the web interface but they are missing from my computer. Reloading drives does not make them reapear.
Running Server 2008 r2.
After letting it sit over night, the drives have now reappeared and are working great. I LOVE this app!
so the problem just fixes itself if I give it long enough?
I had the same problem, the drives just simply don't show up when the new beta is installed. Rebooted a couple times hoping it was one of "those" problems. When it proved to still not show up, I uninstalled and tried installing the "live" code but it errors out and won't install.
Does anyone have any clues as to what is causing this problem and a faster way to fix it? I wasn't quite expecting beta software to knock out the major purpose of my pogoplug (I use mine as a NAS more than anything).
@jpowers, what do you mean by your drives aren't showing up?
Is it your Pogoplug SW Remote Access shares that don't show up in the Web UI at beta.pogoplug.com when logged into the same account you are logged into in the software? Or is it the drives on your physical Pogoplug not mounting on your computer when you sign into the Pogoplug software using the same account your physical Pogoplug is registered to?
I am having the exact same problem. I can view both drives using the web interface, but they are not visible on my desktop PC. It's driving me nuts right now. I keep reloading but nothing happens. This happened immediately after updating to the beta software.
@nicky the second situation is what was happening.
When I logged into the webUI, either thru the beta or the "live" my.pogoplug.com addresses, the drives were loaded and showing up properly. The pogoplug drive beta software on my PC was unable to see the drives, or at the very least was not properly loading the drives to the P: location.
After I tried reinstalling the "stable" version of the pogoplug drive program, and it failed, I saw this thread and decided I'd try reinstalling the beta version. Then it was working without any problems what so ever.
Does the beta installer have a log that might have been saved from my first attempt? I'm assuming that either the installer process failed to do something properly the first time, or there was an error thrown by the software itself.
I have an inkling of an idea of what might have caused a problem... I use a program called Visual Subst (http://www.ntwind.com/software/utilities/visual-subst.html) to load the pogoplug's drives to a drive letter. I know that there's an option in the software to do this thru pogoplug, but it doesn't allow me to pick the letters that are assigned, where as visual subst does. Probably a silly complaint, but I like having more control over it, almost exclusively for the sake of not messing up my old playlists. Anyways, when I first installed the beta software Visual Subst was running and I have a feeling that when the pogoplug device and software were updating themselves to the beta versions, Visual Subst was trying to actively keep the drive letters and failing, which throws an error to the subsystem I assume pogoplug drive is using as well within windows to load drive P:. I'm thinking something along these lines caused the problem, because while reinstalling the beta Visual Subst wasn't trying to assign any drives.
I have the same problem. The P drive no longer shows up and I cannot access my pogoplug device through Windows Explorer anymore.
I can access them through the web interface, I can even email attachments to them. Beta software version is 'Device 2.9.3.0' and Pogoplug hardware version is 'Device 2.5.7'
Would love to get the Pink Plug back into Windows Explorer,
Thanks
Try to reinstall the software it usually helps... and can you take a look at the Task manager and tell me is DokanCEMounter service is running?
Dokan is not running for me. At this stage which software needs to be reinstalled? Version 3 is not on their website and the Pdrive for windows (2.5.5) fails to install.
Cheers,
you can go here if you have your beta license key
https://my.pogoplug.com/activate/software/
and go throw the steps
Sounds like you are having problems with one of the drivers that we use.
In order to fix this you can do the following:
1. run the "Command Prompt" (cmd.exe) as administrator
2. type: "cd C:\Program Files\Pogoplug" and hit enter
3. type: "regsvr32 /u dokance.dll" and hit enter
4. restart Windows ? this is very important.
5. after the restart run "Command Prompt" (cmd.exe) as administrator again
6. type: "cd C:\Program Files\Pogoplug" and hit enter
7. type: "regsvr32 dokance.dll" and hit enter
8. Open the Task Manager->Services and check if the "DokanCEMounter" service is in the "Running" state - if not you may need to restart your computer again and check after the restart.
If the service is in the running state you should be able to see your drives after executing "Reload Pogoplug drives" from the tray Pogoplug icon.
If the service isn't in the running state after the restart you should get in touch with the Pogoplug support team at support@pogoplug.com
I had to reboot my PC due to another patch. Upon reboot the drive is now back. I don't see DokanCEMounter listed in the task manager, but it is listed as started in services.
I an having the same problem here. The drive may disappear without any notice. This is annoying because it makes my pogoplug pro unreliable. It just does not show although i can hear the drive is busy spinning. If I leave it, it may appear again sometime later, depends on its mood.
I suspect it is the ntfs file system that gives me this odd behaviour, just wonder will ext3 solve this problem? any pogoplug expert here? Please advise.
# i am on ubuntu 10.10...
I have had my fingers crossed that this experience would not happen to me. It did. I am on various OS from XP, W7, and Linux. In my experience it seems not to really have anything to do with the local Pogoplug (have 2 pink and 1 biz). One of the Pink's was aflicted Thursday morning. Here is what I wrote to support trying to describe the events that lead to the disappearing devices ...
This problem began because I am trying to get stuff done because I have to be out-of-town for two (2) or more weeks. This morning (Thursday 20110512) I began a 1gb+ upload via my laptop (xp sp3) using a tethered cell phone for internet connection via the web access "upload" feature to a pink pogoplug. A few 100k into the upload the session was cancelled using the CANCEL button.
At that instant, or a few moments later, all of my devices on this particular pogoplug became unavailable though they could be seen in the Settings->General Settings->Your Pogoplug enabled devices!"
Here is what I did to attempt to fix this because I had other more important things to do than "futz" with an unrully Pink Pogoplug that had as its mission the support of my photoShootTrek.
01. Power down/Power up Pink Pogoplug - no effect
02. Unregister and reRegister - no effect
03. Remove all existing devices and replace with a working 8gb flash drive - no effect
04. Follow Ray's 20100723 @ 1321 document (Why does Pogoplug say that my hard drive is not available?) - no effect
05. Return devices one at a time and various order - no effect
06. Use verbal "incantations" - no effect (felt better though)
07. Attempt to eject devices - would not allow or just ignored
08. Noticed during this process the "Enable SSH access ... " choice under Settings->Security Settings was missing - interesting
09. Other two Pogoplugs (another Pink and a Biz) were functioning normally - that was a relief
10. Powered down aflicted Pink Pogo for about 20 minutes - prevented the use of the 5lb miniSledge
11. Powered up the Plug - no change
12. Retried everything - no effect
13. Powered down the Plug, took a nap, ate supper (about 3hours time) - made me feel better
14. Washed dishes
15. Powered up the Plug - All Flash and Hard Drives were now available and "Enable SSH ... " was too.
NOTE: Powered down means the power cord was removed, not just a cycle down and restart.
I am a little confused. I have no clue. I am wondering if "washing the dishes" was the primary solution or maybe the nap. Since the other Plugs did not exhibit this behavior I am presuming that something had to have time to finish/complete/getOverItself.
The only clue I can offer that may have caused this experience is as follows. It goes like this! I know better than to upload a large video file. My experience has been that transcoding may begin immediately and before the complete file is uploaded - no proof other than just noticing the effect. I have never canceled an upload of a 1gb plus video file. I normally change the file type to "xxx" or something that is not detected so the file upload goes as a nonPicture/nonVideo/nonMusic file. Real or implied, this works for me here. I did not do this for this particular upload.
I am thinking/wondering if the "Cloud" servers got a hold of parts of the file and began the transcoding of the part of the file that there and had an expectation of getting the remainder of the file to EOF rather than abrupt ending from "CANCEL." The other part of the equation is that I have been having issues with the cellProvider. The internet connection has been unusual and inadequate and that might be a part of the experience. So, there could have been an "outstanding" request that could not be fulfilled and strange things began to happen like the disappearance of the "Enable SSH ... " sentence and check box.
I am certain that I did nothing to either fix or to correct the situation other than performing several sequenced exercises in futility and frustration.
I just really hope that this was just a "fluke!" I do think that taking the Plug off line for several hours did something good - "but what?"
Forgot to add that I did not notice any extensive local disk activity on the harddrive that I would expect. And, I DID notice unusual activity on a connected flash drive. The harddrive was the target for the file upload.
All of the known required Pogoplug services were running during this time.
Support request #35305.
I'm thinking that there is a Gremlin loose and running amuck in Pogo land?
Pogoplug Farming(tm) is Fun!
I am suspecting that it is the standby mode on the hard drive that makes the drive disappear after a fix idle period. I am on ubuntu, I can see that the hard drive will go standby using the follow sdparm command.
bash> sudo sdparm --all /dev/sdc
I disabled the standby mode and save the setting with the S flag:
bash> sudo sdparm -S --clear=STANDBY -6 /dev/sdc
I am still evaluating, hope that we can evaluate this together and draw a conclusion later.
Note: do it at your own risk.
cheers
In my case, the Biz has an Hitachi drive that does spinDown to powerOff/Hibernate. It is not affected. When accessed, it powersUp and works just fine.
A WD drive is on the Pink that demonstrated this unusual behavior. The WD drive does not spinDown until the On/Off switch is moved to the "off" position. I have been thinking about replacing the WD drives I am using with Hitachi drives to reduce heat and operating costs.
Not that this helps in any particular way ...

What is the model of your WD? Most of the external hard drive would spin down especially those claiming eco-friendly. It is just how well it handles that i reckon.
Same problem for me - V3.0.2 running under Windows 7 - the pogoplug drives have disappeared - I have several other machines and they are fine, and remote access to the machine with the missing drives works - the DokanCEmounter service is running and I have both reinstalled and rebooted several time - nothing worked.
Updating to the latest version I have noticed the drives plugged into my pogoplug are behaving just fine, but the folders I have shared on my local PC are no longer accessible from outside my local (home) network.
Welllll... I'm also NOT pretty in pink. My heretofore totally reliable pink pogo plug's drive is shown in Windows Explorer, but it can't be opened. The trouble started when I installed the new (3.0?) PP software.
Uninstalling 3.0 and reinstalling 2.5.5. has not changed or improved the situation. Right now, my pink pogoplug is functioning fine as a doorstop.
I really need my drive back - both on my LAN and from the cloud.. is anyone at PP working on this? Please? I need a fix.. and so does a lot of other people.. help!
I have posted a call to PP support - I think they are working on it - Do you have any other VPNs on your machine - and do you map any drives on these VPNs?
For anyone else that is still experiencing problems accessing Pogoplug drives through their desktop software, please submit a support ticket at support.pogoplug.com, and our support team will work to retrieve the necessary information to resolve the issue for you.

just a little more info, the two drives were showing up before I installed the beta software.
