This driver is needed to allow Remote Access to work for your computer. Remote Access is what allows your selected folders to show up as Pogoplug shares in the Web UI.
I got a warning when installing the beta software under Windows XP SP3 that the XCETAP0 Adapter driver hasn't passed certification.
What is this driver for exactly?
The only thing I could find about it is that it has something to do with OpenVPN.

I think you people should provide this and much more information BEFORE you tempt people to install this beta.
Now I have another pogoplug mess to clean up...
@callbox47, what mess have you run into? Aside from the Pogoplug uninstaller not removing the xcetap0 driver, which we are now working on fixing, we haven't run into problems with that driver. Let me know if you've hit something, and we will work to fix it.
If there is any other info you want, feel free to start a thread in this forum with those questions.
Whilst on this opic, Is there any significance that XCETAP0 shows as a 10mbit connection, is that a bottleneck when streaming around the house or, will it use the regular LAN connection?
Pen
I think there should be some wording when installing that the XCETAP0 is required, especially since Windows (XP at least) warns the user not to install it.

According to the Network Connections information the XCETAP0 Adapter is disabled after installation. Should it be enabled? If it should, why is it disabled? Running VISTA on a Dell laptop (since it was the only computer available that could get clobbered and not really affect anything).
BTW, if the XCETAP0 Adapter is enabled "here" the status is shown as "Network cable unplugged!" Go figure?
Pogoplug Farming(tm) is Fun!
From what I've seen the connection is only connected when the Pogoplug software is running and sharing is enabled, otherwise it shows as disconnected.
What Morac says is correct. This network interface is only brought up when you run Pogoplug and enable Remote Access.
xcetap0's only function is to allow the folders you have selected as Remote Access shares to talk through the Pogoplug service so that those folders can be accessed from the Web UI and other Pogoplug client apps. It does not replace any of your other network interfaces for any other purpose.
What I found playing with this thing to satisfy my curiosity was the information displayed in the control panel network connectioons as one runs the beta through various steps AND after making the first connection from an outside computer (one off the network) - it could be the Dell and VISTA since both seem to exhibit unusual and somethines strange behavior even in the most common situations. Today, the status for the XCETAP0 is "Unidentified Network." This became the message of the day after making the first connect as I noted. Guess it really does not matter. Watching the network traffic on this adapter is interesting based on what is being done.
The code has to be good. The Dell_POS has not gotten a BSOD or done something else that requires reboot or OS reinstall.
This toy could prove to be fun!

What I want to know is why the XCETAP0 adapter when installed and running with the default interface IP address that the program installs, RDP stopps working. When I disable the adpater RDP works again. So basically I can have RDP working or Pogoplug running but not both. Can someone shed some light on that and as to how to fix it?
My XCETAP0 adapter is always shows as unplugged irrespective of pogoplug application running in pick color state. I have enabled remote access and add folders too. Please advice, I have premium software.
Hi Vijay,
When you say that your XCETAP0 adapter always shows unplugged, what exactly do you mean? Where are you looking and is "unplugged" the actual message you are seeing? Also, do you have any problems accessing your Remote Access folders through the Web UI?
-Nick
I meant when I hover over the network icon it shows unplugged, (You know when the network link is not connected how the network icon will reflect). I could not access (could not see) the files in remote access folders in the web UI. However in the web UI I could see the shared folders name. On clicking the folders in the web ui, I see no files found whereas I actually have files in the shared folder in my PC.

Apparently it also adds another network connection to my machine named "XCETAP0 Adapter" which shows as a wired network adapter that's unplugged. Not sure what it's for though.
Edit:
Okay it grabbed an ip address. I still have no idea what it's used for.
