I am testing Pogoplug Android app with a Pogoplug biz. I am using a "limited" account (not the main admin one).

I can browse files and directories, but if I click on a file (not an image, video or music. For example, an epub manual), I am given 3 options: download, delete, cancel.

If I click download, I get no feedback during download. I don't know how long it could take, and WHERE it is being downloaded. At the end of the download, I get a notification on the bar, that does NOT state which file has been downloaded. Clicking it, nothing happens.

If I go back to the folder containing the file, and click it again, I have the same 3 options: download, delete, cancel. No feedback telling me the file has already been downloaded. No way to open it with one of the 6 or 7 ebook readers I have installed.

The same for a pdf or an odt, doc, zip, etc.

I also can't send it via email or bluetooth, or send a download link to anyone.

It seems the only supported file formats are image, video, sound.

I heard from a collegue that the iPad version has the same limitations.

We are using the pogoplug professionally, we don't share music or video, but documents, spreadsheets, manuals, archives, etc.

Sorry to say it, but as it is now, the Android app is nearly useless.

Same issues here. The Android app stinks!

Yep, the app is basically a joke. Just like the whole pogoplug experience...
However, dropbox isn't very great good either. The other online drives also suck.

At least you get that much. Today, when I browsed with the app to a directory I uploaded some photos to a few hours ago, the app force closes, repeatedly. When I browse to other directories, I can see a list of files with no TBNs and when I click on anything, I either get a "This image can't be previewed" or it just force closes again. It's rather incapable of streaming any videos over the net (I have a stable 30/25 Mb/s FIOS connection, that's not the problem). Makes it hard to share pictures with people when I have my phone, and I'd rather not copy all my vacation pics to my phone when this device is supposed to be able to support this function.

I use a free App called "File Manager" (1.3.3) to navigate the Android file hierarchy of my Android T-Mobile G2. The "pogoplug" folder has the uploads.

Does anyone know if there is a different app we can use?

I have the buffalo cloudstor and I use the pogoplug app and I notice it is really bad too. There is no option to take a picture from my phone (HTC EVO) and send it to the hard drive mobiley.

Also, everytime I try to invite someone to a folder from my phone, they get the link but can't open it.

I was having the same problem with sharing from my laptop when I was using my.pogoplug to do the sharing. Then I was advised to use cloudstor.pogoplug to do the sharing and that works great. So I was thinking, since there seem to be two ways to access my drive, one works and the other doesn't. Maybe there is a different app I should be using that will work better.

Any thoughts??

I asked pogoplug support about android updates:

Thank you for contacting Pogoplug Support. We recently released a completely revised iPhone application and we're working on a major revision for our Android app, which will be released in the upcoming months. Unfortunately, I don't have any more specific information and I apologize for any inconvenience in the meantime.

I hope this information helps. I will close this ticket, but feel free to contact Pogoplug in the future.

It is coming soon. It's a complete re-write to bring Android up to the same standard as our new iPhone app, and soon to be released new iPad app. I will keep this forum updated as we get closer to a release date, but it will be in May - this May.

I agree there needs to be a Honeycomb app or at the very least have the Pogoplug appear as a drive in the Honeycomb tablet so that I can easily transfer files to and from the device in the android file manager app.

Any update from the Pogo team about the new Android app?

June 16, 2011 3:56 AM

Yes, it's a little strange reading about a definite May-release-date for a new Android app - and then not even a short update on the subject since then ...
