The problem here is not the drive itself, but the low-level inner workings of the drive. The kernel, or the lowest level of the OS, on the pogoplug does not understand the block size, or minimum chunk of data size, that this 3TB drive uses. While windows/mac etc have no problems, there is a required change that needs to be made to the operating system in the plug, and CE's discretion and disposal.

HITACHI X-Series 3TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive 0S03092
I have a new Hitachi external hard drive with 3TB capacity (2.75 in Windows)...and guess what? Pogoplug does not recognize it. It works fine and is formatted with NTFS (I've verified it works fine by plugging it into my laptop and it shows up with my files no problem).
In pogoplug with every USB port, it is not recognized either in the web mypogoplug or on my computer. The drive is not powered by pogoplug as it has it's own power connecter.
Why doesn't Pogoplug truly recognize all hard drives. Pogoplug is working because it recognizes an older 2.5" 250gb external drive.
I have a 3TB WD external drive My Book USB 2.0 or 3.0 Hard Drive and I too am having problems with the pogo recognizing it.

I have a Seagate 3TB drive and Pogo sees it just fine.. My 2TB Western Digital was quite slow and sometimes had issues (although works fine on the pc).
Alright, here's a tip:
If you have a Pro, it has kernel modifications to be able handle these larger drives.
If you have a Pink/Grey, these do not have the kernel modifications from what we can tell.
If you have a Biz I cannot speak to this fact.
Future posters, please state the model of pogoplug that you have for reference
I am yet to buy a Pogoplug, but am confused about its HDD Capacity. Would anyone, including people from the company, let me know for sure whether Pogoplug or Pogoplug Pro supports 3 TB HDDs. Also, if they do, what is the maximum size of HDD that Pogoplug will support. I have yet to purchase my HDDs, but would prefer to purchase the larger ones.
I also plan to stream the content of my HDD, which would be movies, music & pictures, through WD Live Digital Media Player. Would anyone be able to guide me as to whether streaming is supported for HDDs of 3TB & more
I have the pogo video, although I am about to return it under the recall, but it recognized the 3td seagate expansion drive. I also have a pink pogo and can confirm that the 3tb drive was NOT recognized.
I have pink pogo, seagate 3tb expansion series not recognized c'mon guys really ??? May return everything just based on this hassle I even purchased a warranty for the drive which is non refundable
I bought a WD Elements 3TB drive and yep, not recognized.
I emailed support and after a couple of emails and a couple of days, they updated my pogo (pink) V2 and now the 3TB drive works. My understanding is that they have a fix, but it has not been "pushed" out to everybody yet.
Same story here works great now can't wait for oct 1 auto backup for iPhone and iPad :p Great customer service with pogoplug instant email response
I have a Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green and I am also having this problem even though my Pogoplug is a Pro. Still waiting for solution from Pogoplug Support.
I have the PogoPlug V2 and have connected to it 2 of the 3TB WD MyBook Essentials, and they are working fine.

Pogo support can get a 3TB drive to work, but avoid the hassle and use a 1 or 2TB drive. Pogoplugs are good, but kinda slow, it takes a LOT of data to fill a 2TB drive.
For the record, I got Pogo support to patch my Pogo-pink so it would see a 3TB drive, but I later swapped the drive for a 1TB as 1TB is PLENTY of space for my file sharing.
I'm told the Pogo supports USB hubs, so you can connect multiple drives even if you run out of USB ports.

How did you get Pogo Support to patch the pogoplug? Did they do it remotely? I assume that you had to raise a ticket to get it done...
Sorry there's 3 questions there, would appreciate some help as I was thinking of purchasing a 3tb drive to connect to my pogo pink...
Cheers
I have a pink/ gray model. I have a 3tb WD my book and a 3tb seagate desktop , the pogo sees them both but I have to let it "think" for a while before it does. I would suggest you give it 30min to an hour for your drives to be recognized.
