Same here. I need to preface I am using a new MBP and have never had a Mac before, so this could very well be operator error on my part. Pogoplug app can see the drives, as they are options if I want to turn on active copy. But do not show on desktop, nor in finder. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Also gone to the current beta on Fuse (2.1.5 beta)
Hello!
Just brought a pogoplug pro to use mainly with my atv2 and stuff. I'm also gonna use it with my two macs as well.
They are both on 10.6.6. one is a mid 2010 17" i5 with 8gb. The other is a 2006 white macbook 2.16 core2duo 3.3 gb.
I can't get the attached drives to mount on either desktop. I have downloaded the app to do it, and I have the relevant box ticked, and have pressed reload several times. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times.
I have hard drives and servers visible in finder prefs ticked too.
Any ideas?? It's kind of limiting the usefulness of it at the mo!!
Ta, Joe.
I found the answer to my question anyway.
I boot my MBP in 64bit mode. I had to update Macfuse (a utility to help OSX use and display 3rd party file systems) to the 64bit version. Getting the right version requires a bit of googleing as the right build doesn't appear to be on the 'official' site.
My other computer is 32bit, and so I just updated Macfuse on that to the newest version. Works as well!
Could this be what's wrong at your end?
That did it - there seems to be a fair bit of misinformation out there about fuse 64-bit. I found the 64 bit version here: http://www.offthehill.org/articles/2010/12/31/macfuse-for-64-bit-snow-leopard/ Although I don't like trusting software from random sources, I rolled the dice on that and it worked. Would be nice if Google got it right for 64 bit. Thanks for the pointer.
I just got my Pogoplug and added a drive and created some folders etc. But I downloaded the mac app (I have a MBP w/10.6.6) but I keep getting a drive error 0 and I can't see anything on my desktop. I have no problem from the browser but the app just isn't working.
Any chance the folks who wrote "this worked for me" or "worked for me" or "thanks it works" -- could they indicate what "this" is, or what worked?
My pogoplug device appeared just fine on both my MacBook Pro (latest OS) and a windows XP system, so haven't run into this problem, but I do help others with computer issues and I'd like to know what sort of fixes make problems go away, and on this one, it isn't clear what worked.
Thanks
Jeff
Read my comment (number 2) And its tells you. I needed to upgrade my macFuse to a 64bit version and then it worked.
Cupcake (seems a bit personal <>)
Ahhh, I'm surprised the macfuse would even install the 32-bit version on a 64-bit platform.
Thanks for the answer.
I use macfuse.
I was going to run the time machine backup from the macbook, but it requires a drive formatted in the native apple format in order to copy things like ".APP" files.
I watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBHHREgoOn8 and apparently you can use a USB hub to expand the USB port capacity.
Amazing device and service.
Again, thanks for quick response.
Jeff
Well my mac default boots in 32 bit mode. You have to force it into 64bit, so I guess that's how it installed. Not sure but I'm glad I sorted it!
Yeah I use mine with a hub. It's awesome!. I use it with my jailbroken aTV 2 and xbmc.
Works like a treat. Can see all the drives on both my macs and my iPod any where in the world! Amazing! I only wish it would work with Timemachine.
Joe
I don't exactly understand how to install MacFuse. I downloaded the MacFuse from the link under the subheading 'Just give me something to install' and rebooted my MBP and reinstalled the pogoplug software and I get the same error Failing Starting drive.
Can someone please walk through the steps of how to install MacFuse and how to run the MBP in 32-bit mode, etc. So that others can benefit from this.
Thanks
Your MBP probably boots in 32bit mode by default. If you're trying to run this version of macfuse, then you need to be in 64bit mode.
I like to use mine in 64bit mode which is why the problem arose. To boot you macbook pro into 64 bit mode, restart holding down the 6 and the 4 key, until the logon screen. Same is true the opposite way around. (The 3 and the 2 keys for 32 bit mode).
Install Macfuse, restart your mac in 64bit mode.
Should work....

thanks for the clarification.
I still have the same issue. Here's what I did. I brought up my MBP in 64bit mode. Installed MacFuse and restarted the MBP in 64bit mode and installed Pogoplug software and I get the same error message. Not sure what I am doing wrong here
mmmmm, nor do I. It worked for me.
Have you tried re downloading macfuse? Or source an alternative link to the 64bit version?
I got mine from a different place from the one listed above. I just can't remember where! Google it and look for alternatives.
Mac Fuse and ntfs-3g are used to read AND WRITE ntfs files.
You may have to remove the pogoplug app from the MBP and reinstall it after installing macfuse and ntfs-3g.
Need to install MAC Fuse first
Read about it here: http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/
Get macfuse here: http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/downloads/detail?name=MacFUSE-2.0.3,2.dmg
Install the DMG (disk image)
Then get the file described here
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24481/ntfs-3g
Click on the download link, save the DMG file then run it on your Mac
Aside from that, the rest is automatic.
Then install the pogoplug from the downloads area. Zip files are automatically unzipped (the default behavior on a MAC) and the contents should do the install for you.
In the pogoplug view area, under help center, download software, you get the MAC version of pogoplug
