I'm in a unique situation where, I do not have access to the router in our building, I have the Pogoplug Pro(built in Wifi,  how can I get it configured for the Wifi without access to a hardwired connection through the router?

I've not personnaly tried this, but is might be possible. Your computer could be used to "thether" the Pogoplug Pro to your computer's WIFI connection while the Pogoplug is connected to your computer's Ethernet port. You did not include details regarding your system or network. In simple terms, you'll need to allow your computer to be a LAN host for other devices attached to it. If you are within a corporate network, there may be restrictions imposed by the network that won't allow for LAN hosting, in which case you'll need to discuss this with your IT administrator.

If you're using Windows, you'll find the LAN sharing configuration within the Network tools. The concept is similar to printer sharing. Once your computer has been configured to host the connection, devices connected to your computer can use that connection as if it were directely connected to the LAN. Once you have completed initial configuration and established a wireless connection for your Pogoplug Pro, theoretically you should be able to disconnect the Pogoplug Pro from your computer and let it operate solely via its wireless connection. Once complete it would be wise to stop your computer's LAN hosting.

Even though I've explained this in simple terms, this process does take more than just a casual understanding of your computer and your network. Most (if not all) of the aids for Pogoplug I've seen assume the initial setup is done via a wired connection. If you consider yourself a novice in these areas it would be wise to seek help from your local IT adminstrator.

I think I have it figured out, I'll take it home, configure it on the home net work, connect it to my wifi on my phone, take it to work and connect to the wifi on my phone and then setup the wifi for work.

Sounds involved but should be pretty easy.

Is there a site that gives step by step instructions on how to do this? I have connected my plug to my computer via ethernet but it is not being recognized. I am also using a wifi connection and cannot access the router.

I have not done it myself, but I think if you are trying to use a computer to pogoplug network set up, search help on your computer for how to set up an "ad hoc" network. You first have to get your computer set up to act like a router. This link may help some depending on your computer O/S.
