I have a pogo plug and have been very happy with it so far. Will activesyncing a folder on my computer allow it to download changes that were made to that folder by someone else accessing the pogo plug web interface?

For example, I want to have a folder on my laptop synced. Someone else logs in to the website and adds their own folder (via uploading directly to the website or ideally using their own activesync). Will my laptop's pogo plug notice there's a change and download that folder to my computer?

I've tried a number of configurations, but I can't seem to get this to work.

Thanks in advance!

No, active sync only backs up right now. The closest thing I've found for what you want is a program called Allway Sync (http://allwaysync.com/) Use that in tandem with Pogoplug and you should be good to go.

Great suggestion! I'll check that out for my PC. This should fix part of my problem, but unfortunately my laptop is a mac and this software doesn't seem to work with osx. Is there similar software available for that?

You could try this: http://download.cnet.com/FileSync/3000-2242_4-100686.html

@unrealnighthawk

I would also suggest Goodsync as a valid alternative. There are versions for PC and MAC available.
Their technical support was not very responsive though when I had some questions on making it work with my Pogoplug/Docktar.

I tested a couple of backup and sync software alternatives here: http://www.pogoplugged.com/forum/thread/11615/Pogoplug-Compatibility-List-Bac...

I had the idea to actively sync (both ways) between a MAC, a PC and a Pogoplug all connected to the same network. Using Goodsync I got this setup to work.
I made on all 3 devices a folder that was kept in sync all the time.

It worked pretty well. I had to test for a while before I got all the Goodsync settings right on both Mac and PC. But I would suggest you to let Goodsync make backups of the files it removes from the folder. It happened a few times that something went wrong in case two files where removed or changed location simultaneously on both computers...

Thanks for the tip TRK. I'd consider GoodSync, but considering I need to sync together no less than 3 computers with the pogo plug, that solution sounds fairly pricy. I'll definitely be trying out some of the options in your post though! Thanks for that too.

Also thanks JJ for that app tip. I've been trying to use it for the last couple days, but it never really seems to finish without an error of some sort. :-(

Hey Pogo Plug: Perhaps consider adding bi-directional sync to your software features? That could make Dropbox obsolete, which is long overdue IMO. :-)

I also consider syncing as a feature that has to be integrated in the Pogoplug driver. This is one of the limiting factors of the Pogoplug compared to Dropbox.

The reason I'm not using Goodsync anymore is because I just tested it with a trial version and didn't want to spend money on two or three licenses.
There are often some coupon codes available to make the purchase considerably cheaper but I'm hoping a next driver update by Cloud Engines will solve the issue all together.

THANK YOU (sorry for shouting). I've just stumbled across this thread and your suggestion has made a dramatic difference to the way I use my Pogoplug.

@threewater - Glad it's helped you! I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the day when Pogoplug can actually do multi-directional sync on all platforms like Dropbox (I'm a Linux user). Not sure why it's taking them so long to include this capability.
