I have large website files that I regularly download to my computer from cpanel of my host. I was going to buy an external storage device (something in the region of 1TB of storage) but I thought the Pogoplug would essentially do the same thing but on cloud. I then went ahead and ordered the Pogoplug instead of the external USB storage device. Can the Pogoplug be used as a back up source other than my own computer for my website files because I would really like to keep the files in two separate locations just in case something goes wrong with the computer.

Have I made a mistake in ordering the Pogoplug because I am now coming to the understanding (after a bit of reading) its not really a backup device as such?

A Maik,
First - I deleted your duplicate post

Are you wanting to download the file to your computer and then have it automatically saved on a HD connected to your Pogoplug? If so no problem. Active Copy or other Sync programs can do that for you.

Regarding the duplicate comment, I actually made the first one a few days ago but I noticed today that it did not get posted so I created another thread. I then realised for it to be published I had to verify my email.  Both threads were published when I did verify the email.

Anyway, on to the subject matter.

So I need to buy a separate storage that needs plugged in to the Pogoplug, right? Can't the Pogoplug also act as a standalone backup storage device just in case something were to go wrong with my computer?

I guess I made the wrong decision then. What I wanted was the benefit of being able to access my files anywhere as well  it acting as backup. I suppose the Pogoplug doesn't do this.

Thanks

There is no storage capabilities (hard drive, Flash drive, etc) included with the Pogoplug. You would need to add that yourself.
If you were to buy a USB hard drive you can plug it into your Pogoplug and then access it from your computer.
You wouldn't have to carry a USB hard drive with you or have to connect it every time you wanted to back up.
