I have been trying to upload several video files in the .avi format and all I get is an Exclamation mark inside the upload window. I have tried this from two different computers and get the same results. I have also tried uploading a .m4v file and get the exclamation marked upload windows as well.

I can copy the .avi files to the hard drive when it is attached to my computer fine.

Any ideas what's going on?

Tim

Hello,

I am unfamiliar with an exclamation mark for the upload box. Please post a screenshot. Or make a support ticket at support.pogoplug.com with the screenshot

Thanks,

Hmm I got the same error everything I try to upload through the pogoplug webacces is getting an exclamation error. When I try to upload through the desktop software I see it's uploading but when it's done nothing is on my external harddrive that's connected to the pogoplug.

I have an 2TB, 500 gig is filled the same way I always did through the desktop software or webacces but suddenly it stopped working...

i don;t think the Pogoplug makes any distinction on file type except to transcode media files and index pictures. first thing you should do is turn off transcoding. could be the CPU on your unit is just maxed out doing file operations. unfortunately, this will never get better....

how big are the AVI files? anything bigger than 2 GB will choke. could be your transfer is just timing out too.

My files were indeed bigger then 2gib and the pogoplug was bizzy transcoding but I have done this all the time and suddenly it stopped working. I also find it very annoying that you can't even upload files bigger then 4gig through the webacces.

Solution from pogooplug support :

Please note that the .avi media files are not supported on Pogoplug webUI.
All movies that have both video and audio are packages with at least two files Â- one file for the video and another file for the audio. These files get packaged into a single container that, when executed, executes both the audio and the video file in tandem. One such container is avi, and avi is designed to be able to handle almost any kind of video file format. Some of those formats are supported by a given media player (e.g. Firefox flash player) and our transcoder, and other video formats are not.

Regarding the failure when copying file to your drive, yypically, your symptom results when your Pogoplug and attached drive experience a basic USB i/o error. This could be caused by a faulty USB cable, the connection getting bumped or a power issue of some kind.

To resolve this, please safely unmount your hard drive from http://my.pogoplug.com using the eject icon next to the folder representing your hard drive(if possible).

Power down your Pogoplug and attached drive. Physically detach your USB drive from Pogoplug.

Power up your Pogoplug, wait for a solid green led.

Now attach your USB drive.

So will try this and report back if it fixes my problem.

edit: Also I'm transferring the items with a roughly 25MB/sec so I don't t hink the transfer times out cause I see the upload bar is fully completed and the copy window on my iMac is gone after copying but there is no file on the pogoplug...

this falls under the YMMV clause (your mileage may vary). goodluck and hope it works out.

incidently, whenever I try to do large file transfers on my network over wifi like transfering to and from my wifi connected Android phone, it seems to totally hose my router and time out my transfers. I have an old Linksys 54GS running DD-WRT mini(it;s only got a 4 mb ROM). it might be time for an upgrade. i only mention this because it;s a case of something that would seem to be totally unrelated actually proving to cause me grief.

for best practices, I transcode down all my video media files to the resolution my mobile devices can handle and from AVI to the native format supported which is H.264 MP4. turns out that since AVI is not the native format on my Android devices, it has to work a little extra to display them.

i find that the less you have to transfer overall will lead to a better viewing experience. and as other have mentioned, i turn off transcoding on the pogoplug and just do them offline on another computer using Handbrake as the cpu on the pogoplug is too weak for anything heavy duty.

I ejected the hard drive with website software

I powered down pogoplug. I powered down hard drive.

I detached my hard drive connected it to my iMac I ran Disk Utility repair disk everything was fine.

Unregistrated the pogoplug.

Powered up the pogoplug. Attached the hard drive.

Enabled pogoplug software through website. I refreshed screen to see the hard drive it found it.

I tried uploading a file 3.87gb through the webacces BAM exclamination mark...

Sigh...
