Hi!

I'm wondering if my assistant can access files without upload/download time from his house or if he can only use the browser app.

It would be too good to be true, I think, if he could get the files as though the drive was on his computer.

It will work, but you should expect some network delay. As you suspected, there is unavoidable network latency moving data between drives over internet protocols.

The only limit to the Pogoplug is your imagination... and C skills... and linux skills. ^_^ h\t\tp://download.pogoplug.com/opensource/pogoplug-gcc.tar.bz2

As long as you both have decent internet connections and the folders aren't too massive, it's not that laggy. Whenever I work remotely (which is at least once or twice a week), I access my pogoplug through my tethered internet connection (which isn't THAT fast) and everything responds pretty fast. The only time I experience a problem is if I'm trying to open a folder that has several thousands of files. If you want, send me your email address and I'll give you access to one of my folders, that way you can see what the speed is like for yourself!

And one more thing...if your hard drives go to sleep by themselves, it initially takes longer for your folders and files to show up because the drives need time to spin back up (usually 10 or 15 seconds in my experience). After that it's all smooth sailing!

thanks, guys.
Thank you so much, JJ. I'm hoping it starts to work somewhat... it's really not working for him. Do you know if activity on the drive might be stuffing it up on his end? I have a torrent downloading to the pogo drive... I wonder if stopping it would help.

In my experience? Yes. I'll give you an example:

I used to save music directly to a folder on my pogoplug. If I had a bunch of files that were being saved (I would have the process running all day), I noticed that when trying to access other files on that drive (even Word and Excel documents), things would pretty much not respond.

So yeah, stopping what you're doing with the torrents might help. It may be different in your case, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Best of luck!
