I'm not sure how feasible this is, but...

Pogoplug's web sites highlight it's openness.  There's a developers page, a SSH server, and a SOA API.  But there's not much out there (that I can find) in the way of third-party/community developed apps or add-ons for the device.  This very likely stems from the fact that the web API is filled with warnings about the fluid nature of the API, and the Linux developers page is essentially empty.

On the other hand, PlugApps is very well documented, apparently very active, and loaded with community developed add-ons.  However PlugApps involves running an alternative to the native PogoPlug OS, and according to their web page, the My Pogoplug service is not available when running PlugApps because My Pogoplug relies on "proprietary drivers".

Anyway, what I'm suggesting is, if feasible, provide a mechanism (perhaps a package and/or instructions) that provides My Pogoplug capability when running PlugApps.  Thanks.

Tony

I think they are working on that. For the Pro, it might not be so far off since the kernel version is not too far removed. Optware is another option for adding packages. It is used by the embedded community and was one of the first to be used on the pogoplug. It is not an OS but it supplements the busybox linux that is used on the pogoplugs so that my.pogoplug.com remains functional. There are also other flavors of linux that can run on the pogoplug such as Debian/Ubuntu, gentoo, etc. As for the Linux Developer's pages being empty, most post on their group's own wiki and forums.

Plugapps is a vibrant community and continually progressing. With their resources, they actually provide alternatives to my.pogoplug.com functionality. Another Linux Option that I carelessly left out previously is OpenWrt which have done marvelous things on the plug. So there are a lot of options for the pogoplug and plugs in general, especially in the Linux community. To me, the smart phones and tablets are getting all the news, but the plug computers are also making amazing strides and there are some convergence between them.

Some great information in a very few lines of text!  Perhaps I didn't look hard enough, but new information I learned from your post is that the Pogoplug (and presumably my Dockstar) runs BusyBox, and that Optware packages can run on it.

Yeah, I've actually come up with my own alternative (nothing fancy, Apache with WebDAV over https) that I'm looking to replace with my.pogoplug.com.  To be honest my reluctance to abandon my.pogoplug.com was more a reaction out of laziness than anything else.  Now that I've spent a little time on it, I'm not sure I'm all that keen on keeping it anyway.

Anyhow, thanks for the info.

Cool! Dockstar rocks! Actually I use a script to turn my.pogoplug.com on and off. If you do use optware, you can make a shutdown script with an entry in inittab:
::shutdown:/etc/init.d/shut.down
I basically kill the processes, umount the drives, turn swap off.

Here some stuff for setting up optware:

If you want to go the plugapps way:

Finally, easy enough in Debian:

Welcome to the plug linux community!

I'm just going to chuck this out there, but it is possible to run plugbox in a chroot, leaving 95% of the pogoplug firmware intact, including my.pogoplug.com services. (just dont disable the hbplug startup)

WarheadsSE is just being modest. Actually he has a writeup at:

The instructions for webdav is at:

OddballHero,

I have been reading a lot of your posts and you seem like you might know the answer to my question. I have installed plugapps in a chroot on a pogoplug pro. It is an adequate solution especially since I can still run the cloudengines software. cloudengines gets in the way though, is there any way to make it ignore a drive? I have a 1.5TB drive I want to use with my.pogoplug.com and a 500GB drive I would like to use for things like netatalk. I can get everything to "work", however, when I try to use the 500GB drive for time machine the drive's capacity is not there because it is being managed by hbplug. Any way to jsut trick hbplug into excluding it so I can mount the drive on my own through a script?

Thanks, I am learning a lot from your posts.

Scary thought.

You might want to consult with WarheadsSE here.  If you upgrade by typing Pacman -Syu (or -Syyfu), you might have some problems http://plugapps.com/index.php5/PlugApps:Pogoplug_Pro_Chroot due to kernel/libraries incompatibility.  You might have to update the kernel though you may lose my.pogoplug.com compatibility.  There may be a way to keep both but it seems like a hassle when you upgrade.

Maybe not for long, you may have to choose one way or another.  Or just don't upgrade ever.

Say what?  Probably not the case.  What capacity does it say?  What is the result of df -h (please paste this in on your response).  Please paste the contents of /etc/netatalk/AppleVolumes.default also.

You can test this by killing hbwd outside of chroot and mounting the drive.

Scary thought again.  Sorry for corrupting you.  WarheadsSE is the true Plugapps wizard.
