Hi,

Just picked up a new Seagate GoFlex Net and have some questions and Issues I am hoping to get some help with.

1)  I copied approximately 1000 MP3 files to the device.  Now, there are a handful (36) JPG files in the music folder that I assume are placed there by the pogoplug?  They appear to be album covers and have file names like: AlbumArt_{04939267-EC6B-4A31-87B1-B6C1562C829C}_Large.jpg.   How did they get there?  My issue with this is that now they show up under the photos tab when I want to view the images on the device.  Is there a way to keep them from showing up there?   What happens if I delete these files?

2) When viewing the pictures on my iPad, the resolution is horrible!  I can't show these pictures to people - they look like they were taken with a 1 megapixel camera.  What are my options for getting better photos on the iPad?  Honestly, this is the main reason I got the device.  I wanted off-line, always accesible storage for photos.  This could be a 'deal breaker' for keeping or returning this device to Best Buy.

3) The iPhone and iPad apps are barely functional and lock up frequently.

4) I've read a few forum topics about data corruption (especially if there is a power outage).  Is this a significant issue?

5) I am generally confused about the video transcoding process, but will do some more research.  However, does anyone know if it is possible to stream the original movies (already transcoded to iPad format) when on my local network, but stream the optimized pogoplug transcoded videos when outside my local net?

Sorry for the long post, but I appreciate any useful assistance.

Steve

Hi SS220,
on #1 - Those look like files that Windows Media Player (and other programs, iTunes for example) automatically download for album art to show in your player. The Pogoplug shouldn't create those in that folder. I would recheck your computer's music folder.
Can't help on #2 or #3 or #5- Sorry can't help. I don't use those devices.
#4 - Corruption of files happened quite a while ago with early firmware. I haven't had a problem for months.

@SS220

1) As Brandon suggests, it sounds like these files were automatically downloaded by your media applications, and you should check the source folder to see if those files are indeed there. Since those files are jpgs, though, they will automatically show up in your Photos filter along with other files recognized as supported photo file formats on Pogoplug

2) Currently, the iPad and iPhone Pogoplug apps require the thumbnails Pogoplug generates for photos in order to view those photos. Viewing photos in their original format is something we are looking into now.

3) We are aware of some stability issues with the iPhone and iPad apps and are investigating them now.

4) We take data corruption very seriously here, and do everything we can to prevent it. If you think you may have run into this, please contact support via support.pogoplug.com

5) There is a master setting that you can set to stream videos in the format you choose. The first step is to make sure the videos are transcoded

- Go to Settings -> Media Settings, select the drive on which exist the videos you want transcoded
- Set "Optimize your videos for playback" to "Auto-generate full transcode"
- Click Apply Below Changes, and then select re-scan
- Wait for your videos to complete transcoding

You can always select specific videos for transcoding by clicking "Show movies that have not been optimized for playback"

Once transcodes are available, if you want to view the transcoded version (say, outside your local network), make sure that "Optimize your videos for playback" is set to "Auto-generate full transcode" before viewing them. If you want to view them in their original format, set "Optimize your videos for playback" to "Never"before viewing them.

Thanks all,

Nicky, if what you indicated in the last part of your response works, that would be great. Unfortunately, that is not the behavior my device is exhibiting. I put one movie onto the device and let it transcode (took 6 hours for a 23 minute video). Now, regardeless of how I change the setting on the device (never or automatically transcode), the transcoded version plays on both the iPhone and iPad apps.

I deleted the jpg files I referred to and nothing seems worse for it. They do not exist in my original music folder, so I don't know how they got there. I'll chalk it up to new user error.

As for the resolution of the photos on the iPad app, I would be happy with the current thumbnails if there was an option to click to show the full resolution image.

Thanks again for your responses.
