I have a samsung galaxy tab through T-Mobile. First off let me say the pogoplug is a great concept and so far I am pleased with my initial findings. I know many questions have been asked about the video streaming over the android app. But I am curious why the app doesn't buffer 30 seconds worth of video before it begins playing? I was trying to watch a 720p video that I used Handbrake to encode to a web optimized mv4 file. The video would freeze every 20 seconds or so. I only had 1 bar of 3G service so maybe the fact that I only had 1 bar of 3G and was trying to stream an original HD video was the problem. I also have Netflix on my Windows 7 Phone (HD7) and it streams movies perfectly. I am also pretty sure their software optimizes the stream and buffers the video. So my question is: Is there a perfect encoding process or cellphone reception that allows smooth video streaming on an android phone? Is pogoplug working on their hardware/software to improve the performance? Thanks,
Alan

I guess I'll answer my own question...Yes it does. I researched the issue and found an older post discussing the bitrate of videos required to have successful streaming. If I transcode video via Handbrake using a 96 kbs audio and a 150 kbs video bitrate, it is obvious that the video is streaming over a 3G service. I have experimented a little and it seems with a good 3G signal I can double the bitrate to about 300 kbs and the video will still stream without stuttering. 250-300 kbs is somewhat compared to a VHS video but since it is being viewed on such a small screen is acceptable. 150 kbs video bitrate is too pixelated on my Galaxy Tab's 7 inch screen, it may be ok on a small cellphones screen. My cellphone is a HD7 with Windows 7 installed and no pogoplug app yet available. I hope in the future Pogoplug can increase the streaming capability via their software.
