I have been having this same problem since I bought the Pogoplug. Drive works great when you plug it in, then after going idle a few hours it disappears. Only way to get it to reappear is to reset the Pogoplug or turn the drives on/off.
I contacted support and was told that my inquiry was being redirected to the "Director of Support" to be replicated by engineers. That was two days ago. Still havn't heard anything but so far tech support has been quick and responsive. I hope they get a fix for this. I really don't want to return such a cool product.
HI,
I just set up a Pogoplug Pro with an External Hard Drive on an iMac. Works well. This is a brand new external drive and seems okay. After a few hours after setup the drive dissapears from My Pogoplug.
This drive is a portable drive that is USB powered. It has the option to be connected directly to the power outlet but I am not doing that, perhaps that would provide more power?
Appreciate the input. Any thought?

Oh and I tried both a drive with its own power supply and a drive being powered by the Pogoplug. They both do the same thing. Disconnect at idle.
Drives formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Thanks. Wow it really seem we are having the exact same issue.
I wonder if all units have the same issue. You know this?
I bought it through Amazon so I am thinking simply returning it and getting another one hoping the new one is not defective.

The Pogoplug Support Director replied to me other day stating that their engineers have been able to duplicate this problem and are in the process of developing a patch for it. From what I was told, the patch may be out as early as the middle of this coming week. I would imagine everyone registered with the site will be receiving an e-mail update and software update.
Scanning through the forums it appears as though many people are having this issue. I would imagine it is costing Pogoplug a lot of business, so hopefully the patch will be successful in eliminating the problem. No point of having one of these things if you can't access your drives after a few hours

Thanks for the update. Very unfortunate. I bought the pogoplug for 1) that I can access the files from wherever and 2) That I can stream media. None at working at this time Lets hope the release a good patch.
I feel pogoplug is a great idea not ready for prime time. I feel as if they were still testing the concept but selling the units on Amazon.

This is ridiculous. I am very frustrated by this complete failure. I am returning mine to Best Buy tomorrow, unless the update and an apology hits by the time I can get there.
I was so excited about this solution. What a disappointment I felt when I saw my drives not pop up and found this thread.
I have been experiencing similar issues. I had a 500 GB Seagate Expansion Drive which was perfectly fine, but the USB connector broke. Got a device to read the drive; hooked it up to PP and it worked...for a short while. It stopped connecting after a short while. Purchased a Seagate Go Flex drive, transferred files from the old drive, to the new and hooked it up to PP. It worked for a good, long while and after a couple of hours of connection time, it failed. I had to unplug and replug in the drive which allowed the drive to return--but to die away shortly thereafter. Holding out for the update--hopefully it will come soon or a trip to Best Buy will be needed to return it.
Here are the instructions regarding how to perform the update on the Pogoplug Pro. This is the E-mail from the Director of Support exactly as it was sent to me. I performed the steps and it seems to work perfectly now. This was sent to me two days ago. Didn't want to post it until I tried and confirmed that it works. Good luck!
Hi Ryan,
This is Christopher, Director of Pogoplug Support.
Thank you for your patience.
Engineering has prepared an update for Pogoplug Pro which is designed to resolve your symptom. It is scheduled to be available by 4PM today GMT-8HR aka Pacific Standard Time. Please do the following applicable steps to prepare for this update:
1) Safely eject your drives from my.pogoplug.com
2) Physically detach all USB devices from your Pogoplug
3) Unplug power from your Pogoplug Pro
4) Attach your Pro to your network equipment using an ethernet cable, if not already attached, and plug in power to your Pro
5) Wait for a solid green led
Your Pro should update to version number 2.5.8 approximately one hour after you complete step 5. To verify this, login to my.pogoplug.com, click the "Settings" button and directly below the heading "Your Pogoplug enabled devices", the version number is listed directly after the word "Device".
Let us know how this update works for you,
Christopher
I have a registered PogoPlug Pro 2 weeks old with my MacBook Pro v10.6.5, Dlink Switch, AirPort Extreme on Comcast Internet. My.PogoPlug login (General Settings) says v2.5.7 & my PogoPlug Drive says v2.5.5. I have just the PP (No Drives Attached / Solid Green Lite) trying to update now for an hour or so and since I have this PP is still reads these versions. I seems that it always takes forever reconnect my hard drives if I eject them.
Thanks

I have a Segate Go Flex Net (runs PogoPlug 2.5.6). Anyone have an idea when I can expect this update to see if it solves my issues with this?
I also have a Segate Go Flex Net, and have very recently been experiencing this same issue. I started another thread on Sunday March 21, 2011.
However, being that combatdoc has not been answered since December 28th, I'll be curious to see if there is any response to the thread.
