I have a 1TB Seagate FreeAgent DockStar connected to my wired router via ethernet cable and to my local iMac via USB.

I have 158 GB worth of files in the Pictures folder on my iMac. I started the Active Copy process at 7:30 EST this morning. It is now 1:30 in the afternoon and it is 7% complete. This seems inordinately slow and renders the process nearly useless.

My second issue is this; I have my files organized on my local HD by event. Active Copy seems to be reorganizing the files by date. I may be missing a setting, but if this is how it works, the process approaches useless.

Am I doing something wrong in either of these contexts?

Thanks,

Kyle

I am not sure of the date problem you are having with the pics, however I can say that the data transfer rate you are experiencing is about right. So far the fastest upload speed I have managed to get is about 1MB per second. It usually averages about 500kbps. Transfering that huge amount of data at first will seem painstakingly slow, however you should only have to do it once.

Hi - I bailed at about 13 hours and10% complete. I tried to copy and paste directly and that was going to take about 12 hours. I figured out that the external drive was in NTFS format. I reformatted the drive for Mac and the copy and paste took about an hour and a half for 158 GB. I haven't tried the active copy with the data already in place.
