Did anyone ever actually get their PogoPlug to STOP with the transcoding even after the update to Realease 2.5.6?  I had the update pushed to my PogoPlug after sending in a support request (Christopher = very helpful and proactive...appreciated!), but it didn't stop my portable HD's platters from spinning non-stop for the next 24 hours.  So - I checked and rechecked and tried all kinds of suggested methods for getting it to stop.  Finally had to just turn the HD off...the PogoPlug is still attached and has a solid green light...but no HD...I can't stand to listen to this thing spin/grind all day in my office!

HELP?!

I read with interest your post. I've been having an unrelated problem since the 2.5.6 release came out. The solution that CEi Support suggested was to remove my transcode files, then have the PP re-transcode them. I did this yesterday (it appears to have resolved my issue) with my PP setting about 4' from me. The HDD that I have attached is a 250gb device that was pulled from a dead laptop, housed in one of those $5.00 USB cases.

The transcoding took much of the day and I had to occassionally look over to see if anything was happening. Everynow and then I'd see the HDD activity light flash and I'd check the web page to verify that all was well.

The point is, the HDD that you have attached to your PP is the noise culprit, not the PP. If the same HDD was attached to a different device, it would make as much noise as it does now. From what I've experienced first-hand, the transcoding really doesn't cause excessive drive thrashing at all.

If noise is the factor, why not move it to an isolated area and use a wireless connection?

Thanks for the input, x~15a2. I am trying it again today with your suggestion to keep this drive from "driving" me crazy. ha ha.

Also - forum members - wanted to copy/paste a response in here from Christopher at PogoPlug/CloudEngines. I really appreciate this kind of support - so rare these days...makes me want to recommend PogoPlug to my tech-buds...as soon as I can get things stablized!

Hi Steve,

I apologize for the lack of updates.

Though Media Scanning is a required process for each drive attached to Pogoplug, you should now be able to disable the three media processes in the Media Settings sub-menu.

Right now your Pogoplug and drive have experienced an USB error and ask you bring your Pogoplug and drive back online one more time.

Unplug power from your Pogoplug, physically detach your USB drive, plug power back into Pogoplug and attach your hard drive. Login to my.pogoplug.com, navigate to Settings, then Media Settings, and set all media preferences to "Never" and click "Apply Changes".

Let me know when you've done this.

As I mentioned Media Scanning is a necessary process to make the media on your attached drive available at my.pogoplug.com. It is misleading that the Stop button is available for your selection and I've opened a bug to review this feature.

If Media Scanning completes and your drive does not idle, then you may have encountered the case of a drive that is not responding to Pogoplug when it releases your drive. While Pogoplug is designed to be compatible with any USB drive, I've had good success with the WD Elements Desktop line, the Seagate FreeAgent Desktop line and drives installed in this enclosure http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-NST-300SU-BK-3-5-Inch-External-Enclosure/dp/B001... these are in no way official endorsements.

In the end if Pogoplug just isn't working with your particular setup, we would be happy to extend our 30 Day return policy to you and process a full refund for your purchase.

I am also available to speak Monday through Friday, 10AM-4PM PST at 415-625-9726.

Kindest Regards,
Christopher
