I'm sure this topic has been dealt with thoroughly already and all are sick of it, but here goes:

Is it feasible to use a Pogoplug as a home file server (I know of the driver download needed) to replace an old (2004-ish) Windows box?  It will only up/download doc files, MP3 backups and occasional biggish Photoshop files (50-60MB).  I feel fairly sure that it is possible to do this but wonder how noticeable the lag before the HDDs spin up and if the download data-rate is perceived as draggy?

I hope that asking this here will get me informed views rather than just wide-eyed fanboys or grumpy professional complainers!

It should work just fine for what you're looking to do. You're sharing relatively small files, so you won't have to worry about file transfer speed. The drive spin-up depends on what drive(s) you own. My drive takes a few seconds to spin up after sleep mode, but that's not the Pogoplug's doing. Personally, I use it for music and document sharing between machines in my home and remotely.

Thanks for your quick response. Any other users? Any complaints from them?

A note about the hard drive spin up.
It appears that due to some caching of the file lists, the drive does not always spin up when you expect it would. For instance, mine almost never spin up when I open the drives. Not until I have opened a directory within do they spin up.

And I think that this is a good thing. In particular, when opening the app the drives do not spin up. So when I open a directory on one of my 4 drives, it is only that drive that spins up. And seeing how I only (pretty much) access one drive per session, the others stay asleep -- prolonging their life, saving energy, stating quiet, etc.
