I like the idea and simplicity of the Pogoplug, but after 10days +- I'm beginning to feel I've wasted my money.

1)  Glitchy operation.

- Loses External Drives

- Active Copy failing to USB key and reporting drives not on LAN (even when they are accessible and ARE on the same LAN).

- Some files that did Active Copy successfully before and I had presumed were 'backed up' are corrupt - I don't know the proper terminology but some of the thousands of pictures copied over are 'blocky' - maybe 1 in 100 or so.  Has this happened with other files???

2)  Brutally slow.

- Copying under 500megs (200 excel files) to a Pogoplug attached USB key took over 20 minutes.

- Opening a 300meg AVI file from same Pogoplugged USB Key took over 4 minutes.

3)  Slow support problem resolution.

- The failing Active Copy is the big issue for me, and I opened a support call.  After 5 days all they've recommended is a check disk on the USB key (no errors were found) and deselecting the Active Copy only to Local LAN Option (which didn't help, and shouldn't apply anyway since my home PC and the Pogoplug are on the same LAN).  These two steps represent perhaps 5 minutes worth of troubleshooting over 5 days.  Please, let's setup a time for a call, or a WEBEX session or a GotoMeeting session.  I'll even host the GotoMeeting.

Not impressed so far.

PS - All the problems listed above are while accessing via home LAN.

What did CEi's Support group have to say about these issues?

Hi Homer,

I feel your pain !

This device promises so much and delivers none, if it does work a firmware update that you cannot control will probably break it.

Problems

1) Streaming to xbox was working, then not, now is working again due to a firmware update. What gets me about this is that it could not manually be rolled back, disgraceful, who owns this device me or popoplug.

2) Drives dropping off the device, then becoming availible and then going away for no reason. "This drive is not available" why ?

3) Very slow copying speeds across an otherise very fast network, 7 hours to transfer 700mb seems abit 1990 to me. (over a giga network)

4) Disapointed that all media has to be transcoded to be displayed on android device, that would not be so bad but if you have more a 30 second advert to transcode be prepared to wait a long time.

5) An orange light has now appeared on the front, but to be honest it can stay I am sick of writing to pogoplug support so dont care that it does not work anymore.

6) Dreadful android app when browsing and playing music/anything, spotify might be an interface you guys could learn alot from.

7) I have no interest in playing around putting new builds on it, I'm sure there is a great community out there, really rooting for this device, but I just dont have the inclination to spend hours wasting my time with it anymore.

Congratulations pogoplug, of all the things I have bought over the years only one has complelled me to join a forum to vent my frustration. Such a shame as the device promises so much.

I have noticed that these forums are filling up with many comments like this unless pooplug sort out these issues I don't think they will be around to long.

Hi x-15a2, I've only opened a call regarding the Active Copy failing. That is the big one for me. Today they've given me the number of the director of support. I'm going to arrnage to work from home one day so I can call him from my home PC during the hours specified in the email. I will update.

Hi Owell, Yes, it feels like a good idea that went 'live' before it was ready. I like everything about the Pogoplug in theory, but execution of these features is lacking.

kinda wish i looked into this device more before i bought it, i could have invested the money in a NAS system that would work out more. im afraid to put any important files on it since it corrupted some of my video files on a drive i attached to the pogoplug.

Active Copy case was resolved by uninstalling (V2.1.2) and re-installing (V2.5.5) the Desktop App.
