I have just recieved a pogo plug.  and was somewhat upset at the speed i was getting when uploading files to the pogoplug on the lan with the desktop app.

Does the pogoplug not know when it is on the local lan  i was only getting about 400Kbs

Can somebody from pogoplug address whether this issue is being looked at?

Even if you're on a local LAN, when you transfer files to your pogoplug, they go up to their servers and THEN back to your pogoplug.... Good luck. I was told by tech support to take the HD I had connected, hook it to my computer, load the files and then reconnect it to the pogoplug. Of course, then you have to deal with the "indexing" where they once again throw everything through their servers... Again, good luck.

That's not entirely true. It only goes to their servers and back if 1) you are using the web interface at my.pogoplug.com 2) the software & plug don't recognize that they are on the same network. Indexing and encoding is entirely handled on the plug.

My speed is 11000 kb/s on a 100mbit network, IMO it is very good! Ofcourse I use the windows software which integrates the pogoplug drives as a drive letter in Windows.

you might get even better speed if you attach your pogoplug and computer to a gig switch. the pogoplug has a gig connection.

I get between 18-28 megabytes per second transferring files to a 7200 rpm sata drive. 4-8 megabytes to USB Flash keys.

oh! I didn't know my old pogoplug has a gigabit connection. Did all pogoplugs always have that?

This might be a stupid question but I'm new to the community. Is the windows software a desktop application or just the taskbar link to the web app?

the windows application integrates the pogoplug drives in your windows explorer. It makes a direct connection to your pogoplug, so you get high speeds over your local network, not through internet. It can be downloaded here: http://www.pogoplug.com/

Ok thanks, thought I already had it but wanted to make sure. Thanks for the quick reply.

You should get max speed when copying a big file. Many small files slows down the pogoplug a bit. So with 100mbit you get about 11000 kb/s. Have fun!
