Hi there,

Today, I came home to find my Pogoplug Pro light a solid amber color. Uh oh!

I immediately checked to make sure the router and wireless network were working, and they were all fine.

I ran a cable to my pogoplug, power cycled, and it started up just fine with a green light and a cable in the back. So I went to the Wireless Settings to ensure that it remembered what network to connect to.

I click Wireless Settings and it gives me that little spinny thing (with the grey spin wheel and cancel button)... so i wait... and wait... and after about 20 minutes of waiting and spinning, the waiting spinner goes away and I am left with a list of no networks. I know for a fact there are at least 7 networks accessible from where I'm sitting.

I noticed that the firmware on my pogoplug pro has been updated to 2.5.7 - could this be part of the problem? Is anyone else having troubles connecting wirelessly with a Pogoplug Pro after the update?

Thanks!

(PS, I'm also putting in a support ticket, so I'll report back what I hear from them)

Hello,

Power cycle the Pogoplug again. It should be fine afterwards.

The only limit to the Pogoplug is your imagination... and C skills... and linux skills. ^_^ h\t\tp://download.pogoplug.com/opensource/pogoplug-gcc.tar.bz2

Yup, exact same problem for me. It was on my wireless network and sharing my printer and disk drive.

Checked the light this weekend and it was amber. So, I also connected with a wired enet cable and all works fine.

It seems that the last firmware update really messed it up.

BTW, I've also rebooted my PC, printer, router AND rebooted my Pogoplug just to be sure and nothing changes.

Hello,

Please make a support ticket containing your DeviceID and leave your Pogoplug connected via ethernet cord. We may be able to figure out what is happening remotely.

I can attach to PogoPlug, but it no longer sees my attached hard drive (ays no drive attached).
However, if I attach the same hard drive to the computer, no problem.
And no LED light on at all on pogoplug

I'm having a similar problem with my pogoplug pro.

When I initially set it up via wired connection I saw the wireless configuration operations available but elected not to configure them at that point.

Now that I'm starting to get things figured out with the nuances of the pogoplug I want to set it up wireless. The problem is that my wireless settings won't recognize any wireless networks, which I also know are available. I've even tried manually entering the network info even though I know I'm broadcasting my ssid.

My firmware is not x.x.7, it's the .6 one.

I've cycled the power on everything several times to no avail.

If it helps, I did notice a decreased performance when I had two drives connected, now that I'm down to one it seems to be working faster (somewhat expectedly).

I also can't seem to ssh into the pogoplug either.

November 9, 2010 12:29 AM

....and I should have looked around more than I already had (for some of it).

Setting a static IP address for pogoplug on my router appears to have solved the SSH problem (that, and logging in for root with my username password versus the various admin passwords listed out there, which is a good thing).

Still working to break the wireless detection problem but am definitely getting closer.

November 14, 2010 6:01 PM

I also have a pro that I cannot get to connect to wireless. The interface never brings up any SSID's. I have disconnected and power cycled several times, but still get no visible SSID' and cannot force connect even entering the SSID and pass key. Support ticket pending...

FWIW, the instructions I was given are as follows in case they help someone else, but so far no success for me:

1) Uncheck "Enable printer discovery" in Print Settings
2) Eject your drive(s) using the eject button next to the name of your drive on your home page at my.pogoplug.com or the General Settings page
3) Physical detach your USB drive
4) Power cycle your Pro

Starting to wonder if I got a unit with bad wifi hardware...

November 14, 2010 7:06 PM

Hmmm... uncheck enable printer discovery, unplug it and plug it back in...nice!

Except that I never had printer discovery checked...

I distinctly remember seeing my wifi network when I initially configured but held off on it initially. Now I'm in the same state you are.

If you hear back on the ticket if you could post what comes out of it I'd appreciate it.

I'm having the same problem. I get green when connected by cable, but no wireless, despite rebooting and the printer discovery unchecked.

November 16, 2010 10:13 PM

Same problem here!

Just came home one day and saw the amber light on. I'm betting something hardware or firmware related got screwed up somehow. I haven't done ANYTHING to my network in over 4 months. It works with ethernet connected but doesn't find ANY wireless networks.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem.

Please help pogo. I already submitted a ticket.

Support had me get into the admin setup and download a log file and send it to them. They have referred my case to "engineering".

Online Support is painfully slow, taking a full day or more for every question and reply...

November 19, 2010 8:53 PM

two days later and still no answer from engineering... Cloud Engines needs a support chat or phone system for quicker response.

No word from support yet, but some experimenting found some interesting issues. I have no other wireless networks near my home to see more than my own SSID. I brought a MiFi 3G wireless access card from work to test my pogoplug to see if it just couldn't communicate with my router. Surprisingly, when the second SSID broadcast was present, my pogoplug pro could not only see the cellular router buy my local router and finally connect to it. My pogoplug pro could only detect my linksys wireless router if the pogoplug booted up with another SSID also broadcasting in range. New wireless networks could only be detected if the pogoplug is rebooted. The "refresh list" does not seem to display any changes when running other than what it detected on boot up. It would stay connected wirelessly if the second unit was turned off as long as the power remained on. Power down and back up without a second SSID present and my pogoplug could not see the router or SSID or connect to it as when I got it.

I forwarded the info with my now 10 day old support request, but to me there seems to be a bug in wireless networking SSID detection.

The WiFi hasn't worked on my Pogo Pro, it just doesn't see my wireless network. I'm hoping that a new update will fix the problems with this device. More so, I'm hoping this patch (if it's not bad hardware) will be rolled out soon. I love the concept of Pogo and I'm willing to 'hang in there'. Tech issues are nothing new to most of us here and being just a tad bit patient will go a long way. Mbeatty's pic says it all, "Hey PogoPlug people, we like you, we love the product, but were a bit restless here!"

Hello,

We are aware that(for some reason) there are conditions under which the WiFi doesn't pick up SSIDs. We are working with the vendors of the wireless linux module and hope to get to the bottom of it.

Please experiment with changing between WPA and WPA2 or changing the channel of your wireless router. If you can change the g/b/n mode settings, try those as well. please let us know. It may help us to understand what is causing the problem and fix it.

I put in a ticket about this problem to pogo and the engineering department fixed it remotely. But when I unplugged the power cord to move the box and plugged it back in it wouldn't connect back to the wireless network. So, I plugged the ethernet in and then it allowed me to browse the SSID's in my area. I connected to mine and disconnected the ethernet with the power still on and it has been working for about a week now.

Everything seems to work until the plug loses power and then it's like it forgets which network to connect to.

Thanks for trying pogo.

Having same problem as everyone else here. Pogoplug Pro just doesn't see the wireless network at all. Have tried the suggestions here with no luck.

Am wondering if I should just return it and pick up the regular Pogoplug and save the $, especially if it isn't working or disconnects when the power goes out...wouldn't have access, but with en it at least would reconnect.

November 25, 2010 2:41 PM

My Pogoplug Pro does not see any wireless SSIDs, and when I try to connect to my known wireless network manually it fails. That is unless while trying to connect to the wireless, I unplug the ethernet wired connection. If I do that it connects and runs just fine on the wireless after that without any problems.

The light on the front turns amber at times when it is idle, but the moment I connect to it again it goes back to green.

So mine seems to work fine other than it doesn't show any SSIDs in its list initially. If I unplug it and move it, it even reconnects to the wireless again if I just wait a while. Mine takes a while to register that a drive is attached to it also so these things seem to be taking a while to actually reach a fully booted state. Make sure you're giving it time to boot completely. I get a green light way before mine seems ready to really perform with attaching to the wireless and registering the hard drive. It does get there just fine after say a minute if I just wait for it though, and after that I am seeing no issues. Running firmware 2.5.7

That is good to know! This info will be shown to the developers.

I am having the same problem with not being able to connect wirelessly. Has any solution been discovered?

December 5, 2010 10:31 PM

I've had a support ticket going for about 3-4 weeks now. In the mean time, I did find a work around. I was finally able to connect via wi-fi by having a second router turned on. With only one router SSID broadcast in range, my pogo pro does not show or even allow connecting to my wireless network manually. When the second SSID was broadcasting from a borrowed router, I could then see and connect to my network. Currently, I am staying connected even though the second network is no longer on and the wireless setting still shows a blank wireless network page. There seems to be a bug where wireless SSID's are either not detected or not updated live. My wireless network page also will not "refresh" live, but will only update when freshly booted.

December 9, 2010 7:50 PM

Update:
The good news: CE engineers logged onto my unit and confirmed a bug where the pro does not discover and/or update wireless network SSDI's correctly. They didn't give me much detail though.

The bad news: I (we) have to wait for the next software release for the bug fix. Since I'm showing "Device 2.5.7", that must be 2.5.8 we are waiting for to get the fix.

This is happening to me to. I USED to rememeber seeing it work. but now, it's Bad and it's not working.

With the latest update, is anyone's wireless working now? Mine still isn't ><
