First strike was never getting an activation email despite clicking the resend link 6 times over a 8 hour period (no it wasn't going into spam, I'm the domain administrator for my site).  I was eventually able to log in to my account and get going.

Second strike was no success with any of the HFS+ Journalled drives I tried, I posted this issue a short while ago.  The website says it supports HFS+ Journalled, but I tried 2x thumbdrives, a 2.5" external and 2x 3.5" externals with power supplies.  None of them worked either from the web or the desktop.  Formatting one of them to FAT32 did the trick, but this is not what I want given I have a bunch of files bigger than the FAT32 file size limit.

When I got my FAT32 drive mounted OK and copied a bunch of files using the desktop app, I got a copy error half way through.  The files were all documents, none bigger than a few Meg, so no FAT32 size issues.  This is strike 3, and it's going back to Best Buy on Monday.

All this and no comment about contacting CEi Support on any of these issues. Posting here is not the same as entering a support request. The time you spent with this negative post would have been better spent contacting CEi Support with your issues.

I don't mind working with support on more complicated topics, but mounting drives and copying files is so basic for a storage appliance that if it's causing issues at that level then it's a non-starter for me. Judging by many other posts in this forum with others experiencing basic problems, there are some fundamental issues to sort out. I like the idea of the product and will likely buy one when they have sorted it out, but until then I will pass.

Well, that's a pretty selfish approach. How can CEi know that there are product issues unless technically savy users contact them about any level of issue they are encountering? Remember, " PogoPlugged.com is not affiliated with CloudEngines, Inc.", so to be sure that they (CEi) are getting the message, they have to receive the message.

I did not know there was no association with CloudEngines. From browsing other posts it looks like some of the CE folk monitor this forum, so I assumed they would see my comments - my bad.

From a bit further testing, it seems like GUID partitions are the problem. Formatting the drives with the old Apple Partition Map makes them mount OK. I couldn't see any mention of this in any of the forum posts or FAQ. If this and web access works reliably then I'll live without the desktop app for now.

There are some fundamental issues with these on macs. I'm finding that copying any extended file format using the drive program seems to cause issues. I also am realizing that building the software platform for an OS based on an antiquated, not followed-up-on base is not a good idea (macfuse). I need SL 64bit support but since macfuse doesn't support it, pogoplug doesn't. 64bit is going to be the new important thing as most people are exceeding 4gb RAM anymore.

Agreed, MacFUSE is still a science experiment IMHO, and does not provide a solid base on which to build a consumer level application.

Hey guys I am having the same issue as blodwyn. Two of my external hd's are not mounting (due to GUID mapping.)
So I emailed Pogoplug support, twice. I'll just paste the emails here. Sorry if it's a bit long. The stuff in bold is most relevant to this thread.

>>EMAIL 01

MacBook Pro - Mac Os X (10.6.4)
FireFox 3.6.11
AT&T uVerse 2Wire Residential Gateway 3800HGV-B (802.11G DHCP Enabled)
Pogoplug Pro - Pogoplug Drive 2.1.2 for Mac
Just purchased a Pogoplug Pro from Best Buy. Initial setup was a breeze but USB drives, are not mounting.
Pogoplug device is not showing/regognizing my two external usb drives. One is a WD 320Gb Passport WD3200ME-00 (2.5" HFS+ Journaled) and the other is a WD 1Tb My Passport WDBABM0010BBK-00 (2.5" FAT). The lights on both drives will light up but do not indicate any activity even when I power cycle the Pogoplug or attempt to refresh via the web interface. My 16Gb SanDisk Cruzer Micro (FAT) thumb drive, however, immediately shows up.
Also, during the setup process, I think I saw an option to upload files. What does this mean? Upload to where? This was a bit confusing and seems contradictory to the nature of the Pogoplug device.
Lastly, In the finder, under Devices, I can see a pink Pogoplug icon with the name "Files shared with me" Can this be renamed? And why is it empty?
Is there a support number I can call instead of this?

Hi Lorenzo

Our engineering team recently discovered an issue with drives formatted with the GUID partition map. We are working on an update that should resolve this issue.
In the meantime, please try to format your drives with the Master Boot Record or MBR partition table using Disk Utility and your drives should mount fine.
Kind Regards,
-Adam

>>EMAIL 02

Adam, or to whom it may concern,

Please see my initial email & reply quoted below.
Thanks for the reply. I have found some information online regarding the
issue with the Pogoplug Pro and GPT formatting. Is it true that this does
not apply to the regular (pink) Pogoplug? Do you have a rough estimate of
how long it will be before a firmware update will resolve this problem? The
reason I ask is that I simply don't have a way to temporarily move all the
data off these drives and reformat; nor would I want to considering GUID is
the ideal mapping for Intel based Macs.
Also, there are two questions that were not answered in my first email.
1- Within the web interface for the Pogoplug, what does "upload" mean? Is it
the same as plugging in a USB drive with new content, only in this case it
can be done remotely via this interface?
2- On my Mac (Mac OS 10.6.4) I can see the pogoplug automatically mounting
along with a connected USB thumb drive - Both with the pink Pogoplug icon.
The Pogoplug shows as directory named "Files shared with me" and the thumb
drive keeps its original name. Can I change the icons and names of these
Items? And can I disable the "files shared with me" folder from mounting
every time?
Thank you

Hi Lorenzo
Answers to your questions below:

Is it true that this does not apply to the regular (pink) Pogoplug?
Yes, the regular Pogoplug does not have this issue.

Do you have a rough estimate of how long it will be before a firmware update will resolve this problem?
There is no official release date I can give you, but it is a top priority for our engineers right now. It should be ready soon.

1- Within the web interface for the Pogoplug, what does "upload" mean? Is it
the same as plugging in a USB drive with new content, only in this case it
can be done remotely via this interface?

The Upload button allows you to select files from your computer that you would like to upload to the hard drive that's attached to your Pogoplug. You can also use our drive application to upload files from your computer by dragging and dropping them:

http://www.pogoplug.com/home-en-support-downloads.html

2- On my Mac (Mac OS 10.6.4) I can see the pogoplug automatically mounting
along with a connected USB thumb drive - Both with the pink Pogoplug icon.
The Pogoplug shows as directory named "Files shared with me" and the thumb
drive keeps its original name. Can I change the icons and names of these
Items? And can I disable the "files shared with me" folder from mounting
every time?
Currently there is no way to change the icon. However, you can uncheck the option for 'enable multi-drive mode' within the preferences menu for the drive app. Unchecking this option will make your hard drives show up as folders within one virtual drive icon called Pogoplug. It will also always include the folder 'files shared with me'. There is no way to exclude this folder from mounting.
To access the preferences menu for the drive app, click the small Pogoplug icon that's on the top right corner of the taskbar on your desktop.
Should you have further questions, please reply to this email. Otherwise this ticket will close in about 24 hours. Even after it closes, feel free to contact us at

Kind Regards

I hope this helps!

I had similar issues. My PogoPlug Pro would not recognize any wifi networks nor recognize my hard drive. I contacted support but was told to reformat, try changing my network, or wait an unknown amount of time until this stuff that should work is fixed.

I would have loved it to work. I was kind of on the fence that time machine doesn't work with it so easily to begin with. But since nothing else seems to work the way I wanted, I'll return it before my 30 days are up.
