Some eight months later, I find myself in this same situation. I put something new in a shared pogoplug folder and it sends an invite to all with whom the folder is shared. I learned this the hard way from a bunch of people that got gobSmacked by me and I did not know that I did it.
I thought I would be efficient and set the shared folder in place and then entered the eMail address of each recipient one-at-a-time since there is no way to enter a groupList of addressees. For starters, that sent an eMail to each addressee. I am not sure what was in it but it went.
Then, I began creating folders within this shared folder to group the information I planned to include in the collection. Since it was something "new" in the shared folder, it seems that another eMail "Invite" was generated and sent to each with whom the folder was shared. If that was not bad enough, I began to add a bunch of pictures one at a time. This seemed to generate an "Invite" for each picture because they were new in the folder.
By the time I was just really getting started, I began getting phone calls from some of the people on the list complaining about being bombbarded by my stuff from pogoplug in their mail box. Fortunately, I had only moved a few hundred pictures rather than the the several thousands that were intended to be placed in the collections for inspection by the intended recipients.
After this experience, I learned NOT to share a folder until "ALL" material (files, documents, folders, pictures, etc.) had been put in the folder and organized the way it I wanted it.
Now, I never add anything to a shared folder unless it is just "one" piece. That one piece means: 1) It could be a PDF that consists of multiple documents that can be separated by the recipient; and, 2) a ZIP'd file that contains all the pictures that I need to get to the client/customer which they can unZIP.
Most of the time I create a new folder since the pogoplug users do not seem to mind a new folder. I move all of the pieces that need to go into the folder. Then, I add the necessary eMail addressees so that the folder contents can be shared.
So far, this has resulted in flawless delivery without bombbardment of the recipient. I got one (1) thank you - not much but at least I know I made one person happy.
To make the address process easier, I have submitted a suggestion to allow recipient-address groups/lists. I got a response that indicated it was a good idea. If it is implemented, then I would not miss anyone or add anyone by mistake When I have to reEnter the recipient list.
I agree that it would be nice if there were a toggle on the share process that would allow new material to be entered into a shared folder holding the invite until the toggle is unchecked which would allow movement of "stuff" to and from the shared folder as well as adding different content without annoying the recipient.
