I like the idea of a Java app (please, not Mono) to work on all platforms. +1

have just bought a pogoplug today and on the whole I am happy with it, I have a number of OS'es in the house including Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10
I have managed to get the PogoPlug to be available in Linux by following the instructions on this site and then create a small shell script to kick off when Linux starts up , so no problems there.
Where I am a bit less happy is the ActiveCopy function, this is something that I really need and maybe I stupidly expected the MAC, Windows and Linux client to be functionallity similar... similar to dropbox , jungledisk or most other multi-platform solutions.
Why can we not have a version written in java or mono which is portable across all the platforms, and why have I read in another thread that there are no plans to do any further work on the Linux app.... With more and more people using Linux I would have though this would have been a no brainer .....
I mean it's not as if the PogoPlug is running Windows or MacOS it's running Linux , yet provides the worst experience on Linux ... go figure.
Would be interested in anybody has found software that works well with Linux and the PogoPlug to provide syncing....

I'm not all that fond of the Linux app I downloaded either. So, maybe you could install samba on your Pogoplug using the instructions at the plugapps website. That should give you the linux access you are wanting. The Seagate Dockstar comes with samba already installed (not that I'm recommending it over Pogoplug because I'm not) and it works well enough for me using both Kubuntu and Ubuntu 10.04.

mono is much more efficient than python and much more memory efficient than java if you don't like mono don't make black PR! It's a sin my dear @apswartz!
For a Linux OS ... an OS in which python comes standard because a large collection of it's included software is coded with python .... it makes it a much clearer choice.
If it gets coded in Mono .. I wont install it. For me it really comes down too the facts that Mono and Java recently changed hands, and Oracle is not doing too good in the personnel department.
Python sounds great to me. I believe a QT GUI can be provided across Linux/Mac/Windows platforms.
Why do we need a special client for Linux? Can we not make PogoPlug compatible with one of the many network-filing systems already understood by Linux? SFTP, CIFS, NFS. Any of these would be just great!
