I second this (and third, and fourth)
this is very important, also for epubs to ibook or stanza, docs to goodreader etc.. pdf's to ...

New to Pogoplug - and VERY disappointed that the iOS plugin does not allow you to go to a folder and download to a specific app, like the email program does. When you touch a file - a pop-up should come on so that you can download and open a file with another App - this is what happens in the eMail app.
The Pogo plug-in is, in my mind, mostly useless since you cannot go to a video file, or a music file, and download it to CineXplayer, for example.
Anyone know if this is functionality that is planned?
We need to DOWNLOAD files for when we are not connected to the internet!
Lou
I agree! Why can't I download files from MY hard drive to MY iPad? The function simply doesn't work. This seems like a major over/short sight.
I also agree. The only thing holding pogoplug back for me is the ability to open a pogoplug file in another ios app.
and just to make this seem more important i add my voice again (see above) for yet another outcry for this functionality: SUPER important.
:-)
Completely agree.
I have the Android app and my wife has the iPhone one and I was very disappointed when I discovered this last night. I use my Pogo as a media server for a couple of XBoxes, and iPhone and an Android. Its great for this when at home via wifi but I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I use it to download video to my phone for watching without later hitting my mobile data plan. Can this be added to the iPhone app? Streaming's not always an option as my wife works in areas with very poor mobile reception.
A point to bear in mind though before blaming the Cloud Engines staff is that Apple are very restrictive about letting people move files onto the iPhone. It may be that this will take a little longer as a result.
Can someone at CE please comment though to let us know if this feature is under development and what sort priority it has, please?
I also would like an update. I am a SugarSync user and dig that I can have folders auto-download. I need this feature or my PoGo (purchased today) will go back to the store.
tvgtvg said: and now it works :-) (newe version of the app)
Except that it appears to work only for file types that the Pogoplug app doesn't recognize or handle natively. Thus, you can't download a video, photo, or song into another app because when you select any such file it just begins playback immediately within the Pogoplug app itself, there appears to be no way to load such file types into another app.
Interestingly, PDF files open within the Pogoplug app but then allow you to transfer said PDF to another app that can be selected from a pop-up menu.
Also, for files that can be downloaded there appears to be no explicit method to stop the download. I clicked on a 3GB file that happened to be in my Pogoplug directory and it started to download (even over 3G, progress bar began to move) but there appears to be nothing in the GUI to cancel the download. I'm guessing that if you just exit the status page within the Pogoplug app that the download will stop but there is no confirmation of that behavior nor any way to tell whether the download is still going on in the background. In fact, I've got to wonder what happens to the partial file that may have begun downloading.
I agree that it should always give you the possibility to open in another app, or do it inside the pogo-app.
and
I immediately imagined all those "canceled" downloads, those little bits wandering through the ether, forever lost :-)
and Now of course I want the same functionality in the ipad app
Without retreading previous comments, I just want to add my voice. Yes to all of the above. I bought the iPad primarily as a way to access my pogo files when on the go. Now that I can't seem to do this, I'm gravely dissapointed. The marketing hype clearly promotes this feature, but it doesn't work for me.
*ipad 2 running latest os
Add me the lynch mob! Didn't know this was not possible until after I had the thing setup.
Can you download content to the iPad outside of iTunes? Is this a limitation with pogoplug or Apple?
Seagate just announced a portable hard disk for the iPad. Now if you can not save files to the iPad with this seagate device, then we will know if Apple is guilty of crippling this type of file transfer.
Seagate today announced a battery-powered wireless external drive for mobile devices, including those powered by Apple's iOS, such as the iPad.
Seagate's GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage, offers up to 500GB of additional storage wirelessly for any mobile device with Wi-Fi access over 802.11 b/g/n.
The GoFlex Satellite drive has a rechargeable lithium polymer battery; mobile devices are connected directly to the drive by use of the free GoFlex Media app -- available now on iTunes and the Apple App Store -- or a Web browser.
Same issues with this app from the ipad. Try to view a doc and it just says invalid file format. Doesn't matter what it is: doc, pdf, xls...
Need some help pogo.
The latest iPad app is a HUGE improvement. Thanks PP staff. I would appreciate it if you could build in functionality when viewing photos to download the original image to the camera roll. The only thing available now is to download the low res version.
Not to beat a dead horse but has there been any answers or replies to the above are they planning on adding a download option? Because I too would love this feature for adding movies to my iphone Itunes suck, and streaming outside the home network is not an option. Maybe with the Iphone 5 and the sprint network..lol
These are all great suggestions, folks--I'm going to pass this on to the folks at Pogoplug.
Any update on this? I am trying to download some video files onto an IPad so that I can watch them while I'm on the bus on the way home from work. When I use the "Open With" option, the Pogoplug app will say "Loading" but not show any progress.
This seems like a no brainer! I have to say I was disappointed that this is not possible. The scenario which has been mentioned is to temporairly download a file (.avi) and open it with a supported media player. I like my pogoplug but there seem to be some glaring holes. I understand that you've moved away from the standalone units but after the recall you should add the save feature since the streaming while transcoding seems a little much for pogo. But the ipad has no trouble playing video files of different formats with the correct app. As a noncoder I'm probably missing something but shouldn't you "only" have to add a save button or open with?
Thanks for keeping us in the loop and hopefully adding this feature. Wasn't there a feature area where one could "vote" for improvements? I know dropbox has this and I thought pogoplug did as well ( spotlight and timemachine would be other great addons)
Thanks,
Philly
I would like to ammend my previous post. Pogoplug has/did update their ipad application. I assume this was done when they added the new interface on their web site. Sadly I missed this and cannot find any reference to it on their site. I will admit that I didn't look to closely.
That said THANK YOU! I can now manipulate the files like I want. Mostly I pull out my ipad, select the file I would like to watch. use the option open with and presto can pick the application (oplayer) which can play avis. Wonderful. The new layout, not too much to my taste and it seems to miss most of my files for the approriate categories. Again not the end of the world since I can locate them through the data file feature.
One hassle. Can I not change how the files are listed? They are alphabetically and I long ago gave that system up and like to have the newest on top. Most users I know like it that way. How can I change that in the application?
Thanks for greatly enhancing pogoplug for me. Just because you listen a second pogoplug has been ordered...
Now about time machine, spotlight and maybe even encrypted disks.... I would order extra pogos :-)
Thanks philly
Hello everyone! I am devoted iPod user for like 7 years or so but I had no idea that we can download files from Apple products onto computers. Thanks a lot for sharing this information! it is really great that I finally found this out!
