I wholeheartedly agree. I have made several posts in these forums explaining how the Samba that is implemented in the Seagate products(Dockstar and GoFlex) is so much easier to work with. Whether you're on a Windows, Mac or Linux machine, it works nicely and does not require any added software to get access to your drives. For me, the only time I use the Pogoplug app(I have a Dockstar and a Pogoplug) is when I'm not on my local network and it's fine for that instance and I'm glad it is there. I do not understand why it is not implemented in the Pogoplug - it would be a great addition to an already great product.
I would like to map the drive connected to my Pogoplug WITHOUT having to run a special app. Why can't the USB drive that is attached to my Pogolug Pro just be mapped via Windows "Map Network Drive" function?
When I owned the Seagate GoFlex Net, I was able to map the same drive in Windows with no special software required.
The mapping in Windows is much faster and easier. Pogoplug has difficulty sorting my directories and is otherwise slow and clunky, and is also another piece of software to load on startup, or to remember to load when needed.
Any thoughts?
It's been a trade-off for sure coming from the GoFlex Net. The mapping was done right, but the Pogoplug functionality isn't as quite as good.
So, what's going to happen if I plug my external USB drive into the Pogoplug AND my desktop PC simultaneously?
These threads:

are discussing the lack of Samba (the feature that provides the "Map Network Drive" function that you refer to) on the Pogoplug vs. the Dockstar/GoFlex Net.
I'm not sure what you mean by "plug my external USB drive into the Pogoplug AND my desktop PC simultaneously". What are you planning to do?
