The connection has timed out

The server at my.pogoplug.com is taking too long to respond.

I'm also unable to connect to my.pogoplug.com and I can't connect to the pogoplug using the Pogoplug Drive program - it won't let me log in.

October 23, 2010 10:06 AM

Same here. I thought it was an issue with my cable, but I can access it through SSH.

Hello, Cloud Engines Support, can you please flick the switch? Thanks! :)

Sure would be nice for POGOPLUG system administration send out Email notifications if downtime is expected and or if they unexpectedly expect it to be down for any long period of time say half hour or longer. No brainer in my book and courteous.

October 23, 2010 10:13 AM

Same here. Just submitted a support request, just in case ... It would be nice if there was a web page where users could check server status.

But I guess that's one big flaw with the pogoplug; we're totally dependent on their servers to stay up ... Maybe that's not such a dependable solution after all ... Anybody knows if this happens often?

October 23, 2010 10:14 AM

Sure would be nice if POGOPLUG would send out Email notification if they know that the server will be down for any length of time greater than a half hour. That way folks don't waste any more personal time than necessary. Common courteous measure.

I can't log on either. it stop working on me around 8:30 am eastern time. I wish some one could tell us there would be a down time if this is whats going on.

October 23, 2010 10:28 AM

Same here. I rebooted my pogoplug to see if that would help.

Question is it better to turn off the pogoplug and try again later or leave it switched on. Would too many pogoplugs trying to reconnect at once make for problems when reseting the servers.

Agree a status page is needed. Just tried pinging my.pogoplug.com and got the timeout message.

Ditto here. Does the support team ever respond to these threads? A search of the forum shows a 2009 post where they were asked the same questions about providing a status page, but they avoided the question. Not Happy. It's hard enough to keep the PC running in a Wife Acceptable manner, this is definitely not helping...

During this outage, I'm not even able to see the pogo plug files through my local lan (not intending to use the web). Is this what everyone else is experiencing?

Update, once the service came back up I still could not see my drive. I had to reboot my pogoplug. Grrrrr.

October 23, 2010 10:40 AM

The servers are back up

October 23, 2010 10:40 AM

I couldn't log in until just a minute ago. I was able to log in but my drive is gone. Maybe they are restoring from a backup?

October 23, 2010 10:43 AM

The site seems to be back up, but it wouldn't see my drive. But it remembered which folders where shared so I guess it connected to my pogoplug since nothing is stored on the servers. I disconnected and reconnected the drive, but it didn't help. I rebooted the device and I'll let it sit for few hours before trying to connect the driver. I guess it's a matter of recovering from dirty unmount or just synching up with the server and since I'm running over HTTPS it might be slower. Or something is still down.

October 23, 2010 10:47 AM

I'm back up too

October 23, 2010 10:47 AM

I got my drive back. I logged in through the website my.pogoplug.com and kept clicking on the I attached a USB drive link. After a 6 or 7 times I got a RPC error and the drive and all its contents appeared.

October 23, 2010 10:50 AM

I'm up.

So no one had access to their drives for AT LEAST 1 hour 40 minutes. Unless you were at the physical location of your drives your data was being help hostage by this service outage. Accompanying this outage was absolutely NO notifications or status updates from CE engineers/support. This is unacceptable. Seems like now would be a good idea to implement samba support, gentlemen.

I had also thought that regardless of internet connection that my internal local LAN experience would be uninterupted. However during this downtime I could not access my 3 drives connected to the pogoplug whereas before this server downtime with router off I could still connect. Something odd with the app this go round.

I couldn't see my drive so I unplugged the pogoplug, disconnected the drive, powered up the pogoplug, and then reconnected the drive. I got a message from the web interface that said I needed to remove the drive from the pogoplug, connect the drive to my computer (a Mac) to do a drive repair, and then reconnect the drive to the pogoplug. That seemed to work - I'm back where I started with all the same sharing settings I had previously.

There was a DNS issue at our datacenter and the Pogoplug service was unavailable for a short period of time. We have resolved the issue and everything should now be up and available. We will be working to make sure this does not happen again. We will also work on implementing a better messaging system to keep you informed if there are issues. Thanks for all of the support and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
