Part 1:
I, from time to time, like to backup my drive attached to my pogoplug. I have previously used the samba mapping to transfer from the pogoplug to my backup drive (local usb drive). This got up to 19MB per second. Thinking that this is pretty far from the maximum throughput of usb, I decided to drop the backup drive (seagate free agent go) into my dockstar. I figured that a direct USB to USB interface through the pogoplug would be much faster, close to maxing out the USB throughput.
This apparently turned out to be a horrible mistake. The copy, that was set to take 7 hours on my pc (samba drive to local usb), magically jumped to well over 12 hours, with MASSIVE disk thrashing of both drives attached to the dockstar.
Is this due to hardware limitations of the embedded cpu or a few lines of code that do not like direct disk to disk copies?
Part 2:
Media settings in pogoplug software.
I see an interesting issue with my pogoplug. First off, any time I connect a drive, it is automatically scanned for media. This is the entire drive. Would it be possible to add an option to disable autoscan, and manually select locations for media files? I personally find it annoying to see random .jpeg/.bmp files showing up, that I have no desire to see, not to mention the fact that I have had pretty random pictures show up from a recovery location on my drive, that I use for backing up other people's computers when I repair them.
Part 3:
To the pogoplug development team. I am finishing up my senior year in electrical engineering and I would absolutely love to talk to your hardware dev team about future expansion of your pogoplug lines. I feel that pogoplug has, by far, one of the most user friendly systems to date, and that if approached correctly, a full NAS device would be a massive step in the right direction for businesses and heavy home users alike.
