Instead of letting my pogoplugged drive to transcode the movie I have and stream it at real time (which is more challenge technically I think), I would love to just download the file as is to my iPhone and play it locally later with higher quality (without transcoding).

Some of my other iPhone app allows me to download video locally and play it later even without internet access. So I think technically it is quite doable.

Overall, I think pogoplug is a great idea. It is just the phone implementation leaves a lot to be expected.

I second this, in FileBrowser for instance i can download any file and then choose the application that I want to display the content in.

Some examples:

I want to use GoodReader to display my PDFs

I want to use VLC, CinePlayer or OPlayer to play my AVI, MP4 files (which would mean you dont have to build in external monitor support to your inbuilt player)

I want to use ComicZeal to read my comics

I could go on and on, but the gist is that by enabling this feature you could potentially delay some of the other failings in the app...such as lack of samba support, external monitor display, more extensive file format support.

would like to have this feature not only for video but also for music! download it and listen without internet connection would be real great!

I third this.

Allowing a "download to local file system" option for any file would be a good thing on mobile devices, plus get working with Opera, please!
