I installed my HP printer into my pogoplug through usb and it detected it and I can print to it through emailing an attachment or through the web insterface.

Is there anyway to install it as a printer on my local machine? So I don't have to go into the web insterface everytime I need to print. So it would just show up as an attached printer?

Sorry if this has been posted before.

This feature works whether the printer is connected to your LAN or directly to your Pogoplug via USB. Therefore, if you can connect your printer to your local network rather than directly to your pogoplug you will be able to access it from the pogoplug and your local PC.

It is not possible to connect the printer to your local PC and access it via the pogoplug print function.

To clarify further - fred, as long as the printer lives somewhere on your LAN, you can print to it from both your PC directly and also via the Pogoplug.

I have it installed to my pogoplug. But what I am guessings is that I cannot install it to my computer as a printer throught the pogoplug usb port.

@fredmarkle - That's correct. But, you can install it as a network printer and use it on both connected PC's and your Pogoplug, since your Pogoplug will detect it.

Here's one of many tutorials you could find:

So, to clarify, there is no way to connect to the shared printer over the LAN via a installed network printer on the PC? You have to send the files in to print@mypogoplug.com for it to work? That is nice for remote printing, but it does limit the capabilities of a true network printer.

Both my.pogoplug.com and Windows recognize that I have a printer on the network, but I cannot print to the printer. I have an HP Laserjet p1006. I also cannot print from sending attachments to print@mypogoplug.com so I don't understand where the problem is.

The Pogoplug will see the printer(s) you have connected to the Network but it does not support Dell printers as of now. Epson and HP printers from 2005 are supported.

@tdmomega, I'm not sure exactly what workflow you are outlining. There are a few possible configurations, at least one of which I think will satisfy the workflow you are trying to accomplish.

- Hook your printer directly to your Pogoplug via USB, and you can print documents and images on your Pogoplug to that printer
- Connect your printer to the same network as your Pogoplug, and you can print documents and images on your Pogoplug to that printer; any computer on that same network will also be able to print to that printer
- Share a printer hooked up via USB or network to any user's Pogoplug account, and both you and the sharee can print documents and images on either Pogoplug to that printer
- Select a printer hooked up via USB or network as the printer to which email attachments are printed, and anyone from any email address can print to that printer by sending attachments to the desired print address

Does this clear things up?

Nicky,

I have just posted a similar question but having read what you write above I am still not certain that i can do what I want and what I expected to be able to do ie print from any of my three networked computers to my single printer which is connected directly to one of the net worked computers.

My router is in a room in the centre of the house to get best reception and the three computers are in different rooms. I can't plug the Pogo into the printer via USB because of course they are in different rooms.

So as I see it the question is : In the situation I have described,is printing to that printer from any of the three computers only possible if I can physically plug it into the network via a network cable - if that's the case I think I am stuffed.

I have a related question that has been confusing me. I seem to remember in a past version of the pogoplug software I was able to use my Pogoplug (v2 - pink) as a printer server. That means I could plug a normal, older HP printer into the USB port of the Pogoplug, and then Windows would discover that printer as a network printer and be able to print directly to it over the LAN (rather than using the silly cloud print email service).

Is this still possible? If so, how? I can't seem to get it to work like that.

The version 4.0 "uploader" software has removed the printer share functionality that worked very well in 3.X pogoplug software.

If you have the older version, install it, and it works great. You just have to deal with the incessant request to upgrade to a crippled, newer version.

I asked support in an email why this was removed, and never got a response.
