Does anyone else have problems connecting to multiple hard drives through their Pogoplug/Dockstar?

I have two hard drives connected to my Dockstar, but my Xbox 360 can only read one of them.  I can still access both drives through my PC and my Free Agent Theater media player.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

It appears that the XBox360 cannot select individual drives. The XBox360 does not behave like the pogodrive program that you install on your home computer. The XBox360 can only display items that appear in youe LIBRARY.

But the pogoplug will scan ALL your attached drives and place a 10 second preview in the LIBRARY-VIDEOS area which XBox360 displays.

You will need to transcode any video that you wish to play for longer than 10 seconds. The pogoplug can transcode the files on the attached usb hard drive, but is very slow.

It is faster to use handbrake or similar program running on your home computer attached to the usb hard drive directly. You can transcode all the videos you wish to stream and then reconnect to the pogoplug.

Be sure to set transcoding on the pogoplug to 'never' to stop it from transcoding your videos.

p.s. I forgot to mention that version 2.5.3 firmware of pogoplug has broken streaming to XBox360 and PS3.

If you have an earlier version of the firmware, you can disconnect your pogoplug from the internet to prevent Cloud from updating your pogoplug until a fix is provided for this problem.

If your pogoplug has been updated by Cloud, you will need to wait until they fix the problem and send out the fix as a new update. There is no way to rollback the 2.5.3 firmware update.

The pogodrive program I mentioned above is for transferring files between your home computer and the pogoplug.

The program My PogoPlug: View (on the web) allows you to see and maintain all your drives connected to the pogoplug.

The XBox360 or PS3 boxes appear to only stream files that appear in your LIBRARY.

...when it's working

Stephen,

Thank you for your reply.

When I view my LIBRARY through my.pogoplug.com, movies from both hard drives show up. However, I can still only access and stream movies from one of them at a time via the Xbox 360.

I have transcoding set to "NEVER" for both drives, and have been streaming untranscoded videos successfully. The Xbox 360 can play .AVI files (the format of most of my movies) without needing the Dockstar to transcode it.

If I disconnect the Dockstar from the internet, is there still a way to locally access the settings available at my.pogoplug.com?

Thank you,
Ryan

If you disconnect from the internet, the my.pogoplug.com is not available.
Also other internet devices like remote computers or PDAs would not be able to access your pogoplug.

So, your pogoplug would not get updated, but it also would not be very useful this way. Only locally connected devices would be able to stream from the pogoplug, as long as they did not use my.pogoplug.com.

I think your XBox360 or PS3 would still be able to connect, but your home computer would not be able to stream from the pogoplug because it uses my.pogoplug.com.

To clarify, when streaming to your XBox360 from the pogoplug hard drive, are you trying to stream to another device like a computer, PS3, or PDA from the same pogoplug?

I would think that the pogoplug would be able to stream to only one device at a time, but I have never tried this. Are you able to stream to multiple devices at the same time?

I actually only use my Dockstar for local streaming, so I may follow your suggestion of disconnecting from the internet to prevent the update. The problem I foresee is that every now and then, I need to use the my.pogoplug.com interface to re-enable the media settings on my hard drives. This happens when I unplug/reset the Dockstar due to it periodically losing connection with my local network. I haven't figured out why this happens, I just know that rebooting the Dockstar (and subsequently re-enabling the media settings) works.

I will check to see if I can stream to multiple devices and report back.

Confirmed: the Dockstar CAN stream to multiple devices simultaneously. In my case, an Xbox 360 and a FreeAgent Theater+.

Pogoplug detects if it is being accessed via the local network to which pogoplug is connected. If so, data is streamed over the local network rather than the internet. Therefore the home PC connected to the same network as the pogoplug will stream data over the local network.

I disconnected my internet cable from my cable modem, leaving my local network intact but disabling internet access.

I was then not able to connect with my pogoplug using my.pogoplug.com or the pogodrive program.

I can still access the pogoplug using Bitvise Tunnelier, but how do I stream video?

Is there another program that would allow me to stream video from my pogoplug using only a local connection.

I noticed that the new Account Settings - Media Settings now has a dropdown list for your attached devices.

I am guessing that you now need to enable and save the streaming option for both of your devices on this settings page.

I have also noticed that this streaming option gets turned off if you remove a device and then re-attach it. So after you attach a device you need to go back to the Account Settings - Media Settings page to restore the settings you want.

Save your setting for the currently selected device by pressing the 'Apply Below Changes' button.

Its interesting that you are actually able to access using Bitvise Tunnelier!

Cloud Engine state that the pogoplug can not be accessed unless there is an internet connection. The web app and the desktop drive app connect to my.pogoplug.com

A very interesting experiment!

Yes you can select individual drives for streaming. I've only one of two enabled for streaming due to the type of files stored on each drive.

There have been numerous posts about the streaming option being turned off without user intervention. The reason isn't known! So in case of streaming problems verify that streaming is still enabled for your drive.
