Hey guys, just registered. I got my plug the other day and have thinking ... probably to much about my storage that I want to connect to it. I have a 1TB drive that I use for primary storage and another 500GB drive that I plan to use for a redundant copy for some of the things on the TB drive. The 500GB drive may also see some other useage as I go such as backups for my web server in a remote location or things like temporary writing from my windows media center setup. I think I know the answer to my question but I'll ask for discussion anyway. I am looking at drive enclosures. It would be nice to go with a dual drive unit, one power cord, one usb cable. BUT I know the limitations of USB data transfer and don't want to hinder it anyway by cramming traffic to two drives across one USB cable. I know I likely wouldn't max it but I'm thinking I should go with two separate enclosures to maximize performance. I find myself looking at the cheapest enclosures but I don't want something with a cruddy performing controller that will slow things down either.

The more I think about it the more I wish the plug had eSATA but I do understand its purpose and maybe we can see eSATA in the future.

I don't think e-sata would give any benefit, the limiting file transfer speed would be the wifi/internet connection.

Remember any drive shared gives the other user full access, including deleting. So you may want to think of just putting copies of files onto Pogo just in case. But then again I don't know what you intend using it for. Personally I use USB sticks and a usb-powered drive with COPIES of my photo's etc for sharing.

I think eSATA would make a worth while difference for the throughput of local devices on the home LAN that utilized the streaming functions of the plug, but you may be correct in that it probably isn't necessary at this point. As for my personal uses I'm not sure how much sharing with others I am going to be doing. My original thought was to use it as a sudo home NAS as well as use it like a personal, unlimited dropbox type of functionality.

Not relevant to you probably, but just to correct a point I made: Access can be restricted to view/download only or full access.

These seem to be old posts but I don't know who might be reviewing. True that the Internet would be the slowest portion of a wide area connection. 2nd slowest is the 100mb/sec (only 10 MB/sec) networking port on the device. Now, if the device performed to 10MB/sec and the USB [only 2.0] was capable of performing at 480MB/sec, we would have a wonderful device. Unfortunately, it seems that all these theoreticals get thrown out the window as performance is more like Internet speeds, even in the local network.
