So, to clarify, in order for any machine connected to your router (which I'm assuming also doubles as a network switch, and the Pogoplug is also attached)one has to enter a password?
Do you have any other devices attached to the network that are working properly; e.g., a NAS, another computer, etc - and you can see them on the network?
The simplest test would be to briefly open up your network to see if that is what is causing the issue. The Pogoplug does need an open connection to the Internet to work, so if your router is blocking this, that would certainly explain the issue!

I wasn't able to find another thread on this topic and I have been searching forever...
On my home network I have a password on my router to access the internet. Is this stopping me from activating my Pogoplug? All I get is the solid amber light and I have made sure that I have all my settings allowing the Pogoplug to access the network. But nowhere does it ask me for my network password for access. I'm pretty sure this is the reason why I can't activate it, does anyone have a suggestion or a solution to the problem besides making my network public? Thanks
Sorry I may have worded this incorrectly...Basically I have setup my home network so that it requires a password in order to grant access to the internet (secure network). All of my devices that are attached have prompted me for the password in order to gain access to the web and saves the network so I don't have to keep re-entering the password. My question is, will the Pogoplug not ask me for my network password? Because I am pretty sure that is the only reason why I am getting the solid amber light. All of my network settings should allow the Pogoplug to operate normally if it were to actually have access to the web. When I go through the activation for the Pogoplug it only requires that the device be connected to the router, but doesn't prompt for the password which I assume is the only thing stopping me from getting this to work properly. Is there a solution to this problem?
I would like to know this too, as my router is set up to require password for other devices to access my internet connection via wifi. In other words other wifi devices recognize my connection as a secured connection and must enter a password to connect wirelessly through my internet connection. I haven't connected to mypogoplug yet as mine is enroute to me as I'm typing this, but if this is going to be an issue, would like to know a solution PRIOR to attempting to install and activate.
@crice88, at this time, as Peter mentioned, the router to which your Pogoplug is connected must provide an open connection to the internet, which yours does not. In order to use Pogoplug, you must allow it to connect openly to the internet (either via your router or some other means).
@binky73, it sounds like your setup will work with Pogoplug, provided you have the Pogoplug wireless dongle or a Pogoplug Pro. In the Web UI, if you go to Settings -> Wireless Settings and select the SSID for the AP to which you want to connect, you will be prompted to enter the password, and will connect. Let me know if I have misunderstood your setup.
My network, too, is secure. I had no problems setting up Pogoplug to work on it, however, since hooking it up, I've had network issues with all of my computers on the network.
There are four computers connected through the router and four external hard drives connected through the pogoplug. Since hooking into the router, each computer has been knocked offline almost each time they sleep for a while. This never happened before. The only solution to reconnect them is to reboot, as nothing short of this seems to do the trick.
Are there router settings of some sort that I need to adjust and, if so, how do I go about doing that? I've never really adjusted settings other than channel number and such and, it's been such a long time, I don't quite remember how to access them.
I would appreciate any help you can give me with this as this is most inconvenient. Thank you.
I also have another question to go along with this one. At work I our access to the internet is through a secure connection. I have pogoplug at home and I want to download the drive to my computer to access it easily here too. I can get to the drive through mypogoplug, but when I download the drive there is no where for me to type in my proxy information, username and password (for my work internet connection) Is there anyway to do this?
