I had setup my Dockstar to run PlugApps and was quite pleased with it, but as is sometimes my downfall I wanted to "make it better". In particular I changed some of the parameters like usb_boot so it could find the correct drive/partition to boot from when multiple drives were attached. After making these changes my Dockstar started to fail boot up. As I had not yet gotten around to setting up the serial console I went down that path and today have a usable serial console hookup.

So if I simply watch the thing boot (without interrupting it) I see where is is stuck in a loop not able to start the Linux. My next steps were to read as many postings as I could find to try and bring it back to life. This got me to tftp in a new kernel (ce_kernel_redstone_v63.img) and ramdisk (ce_ramdisk_v2.0b.img.gz). The only issues I noted were when I wrote the kernel to NAND (nand write 0x800000 0x100000 0x1e30f0) I got an error that said "Attempt to write non page aligned data". I changed the command to "nand write 0x800000 0x100000 0x200000" and the write reported success. The instructions I was using said to next set the bootargs to "setenv bootargs $(console) root=/dev/mtdblock2 initrd=0x1000000,0xb39a59" and to run "bootm 0x800000". The following is as far as it gets, so I'm hoping someone here may know what I need to do to get past this issue.

Marvell>> bootm 0x800000
## Booting kernel from Legacy Image at 00800000 ...

Chickey, as you can tell this board was not much help so I cross posted over on the PlugApps forum and found all kinds of assistance. The thread over there if you care to look it over can be found at http://plugapps.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=302&start=30 . One thing I found on my journey was that if I had followed everyone's warnings from the beginning and made sure I had serial console access most of my troubles would not have happened. Read through the thread as not only did it ultimately get my Dockstar back to working, but it also is a great lesson in trouble shooting I for one will use again in the future.

Simply one man's opinion.
