When you set up a new pogoplug and attached hard drives the software will start indexing the hard disk(s) files and start to transcode any media which is on the disks. If you have a lot of media to transcode this may take a very long time!

There are also comments from forum members regarding their hard disks not spining down and becoming very hot. This seem to depend on the powersaving facility built into the USB hard disk firmware. This thread concerns this very problem;
