You could do a few things...
1. Test your internet connection. It seems like 8 hours for 10 gigs is WAY slow. It almost seems like you're only getting 1Mps. Is that the case?
2. You could disconnect the USB cable to the drive, copy it over and then plug it back into the pogoplug. While that isn't the best option (because I've tried that a few times, and corrupting the HDD is high, and you'd have to start all over again. Because, you know... that's always fun.)
3. How fast is the HDD? If it's a slow one like a 5400RPM, it will take longer then a 7200RPM or 10000RPM.

When I set up my active copy yesterday it took about 8 hours to copy about 10 gigs of data from my PC to my external drive. Granted, this is likely because I have the Pogo plugged in to my router, but my PC is connected to the router wirelessly over 802.11N.
I would also like to sync my photos and music, but combined that's probably another 40-45 gigs of data. Is there a way to shortcut the process at all? I mean, I know I could side-load the data via USB directly to the attached drive, but then wouldn't I lose the benefits of having an Active Copy folder?
Alternatively I suppose I could set up my computer in my living room temporarily and connect it via ethernet, but I'd rather avoid the hassle.
Thoughts?
Yesterday I ran an initial active copy from my desktop c: drive to my pogoplug external drive in about two hours for 42.5GB of data. The desktop pc was running Win XP SP3 and the network connection and ethernet adapter were all operating at 1Gbps full duplex.
Previously I downloaded and installed a free program called RichCopy which was recommended by Jon.QA of Cloud Engines on this forum, see link below. I tested it on a 45GB copy to pogoplug which it completed in just under 3 hours. The desktop PC was running XP and data transfer was over a 10/100 Mbps wired ethernet connection.
(Edited: the destination hard drive was connected to the pogoplug which was connected to the network in the normal configuration not to the PC !)
If you don't want to disconnect your drive from the pogoplug to make the initial mass transfer of files directly from the PC you could use RichCopy for the initial transfer then set up an Active Copy between your PC C: drive and your pogoplug external drive. RichCopy could do the initial heavy lifting leaving Active Copy just do the file changes and updates.
