I have recently come across the Pogoplug product and at first was interested in using it as a "shared" drive; but the idea of buying one started festering ideas in my head.

So, I was thinking about buying two external hard drives and using one for my primary copy of all my documents, photos, music, etc and the second one as a backup.

I am wondering if anyone else has tried this have if you find the upload/download too cumbersome to use as the primary copy.I am basically talking about moving my Windows "My Documents", "My Photos", "My Music", etc folders to this external drive connected to Pogoplug and so can access any file, at any time, from any computer or mind (or elsewhere).

Thanks.

I use Active Copy to backup 'My documents' all the time.
In your scenario what you would do is save everything to your computer's hard drive.
Then you would setup an Active Copy from your internal hard drive to one of the Pogoplugs hard drives. Then you would setup another active copy from that hard drive to the other one.

When setup you would save your files to your computer's hard drive and active copy would save it automatically to the first external HD and then to the other.
You would not have to worry about saving anything directly to your Pogoplug external HD.

i use mine for almost the exact same setup. i have 2 hard drives connected to it with 1 being my primary media drive, and the other backing up the files from that drive. i have all my music, video, and pictures all stored on there. i also have 2 flash drives connected that hold important documents as another backup for them incase anything happens to the spinning drives. it works great for me, watching video and pictures on my ps3, i stream my music through itunes from it, works great!

Is this still working out for everyone? I am not having good success with it. I have already fatally corrupted two hard drives, fortunately I have had the backup in both cases and I am getting frustrated with this.

Is anyone else still doing this? What is your setup? This was the primary reason why I wanted to try using Pogoplug and now it seems like even the Sync/Active Copy (whatever it is called now) does not let your specify a destination location, just a source location. Even, if went back to sycning my hard drive data from my PC, then I would still want it to be in a directory tree of my choosing - not Pogoplugs.

I currently have one hard drive hooked up to the Pogoplug and am starting to see that "slow processing error" others have complained about. I am wondering if this consistent working is what ruined my past two hard drives.

Anyways, just wondering what other people think? Are you still using it for this purpose?

Thanks.
