Hello. I have been using my Seagate Freeagent Dockstar on my Linksys WRT54GC router for a long time without issue, no configuring was required.

I recently upgraded to a D-Link DGL-4500 router (H/W version A2, F/W version 1.23NA (that's the latest firmware)). I plugged my dockstar in the same way as I did with the other router, but the blinking light will not stay green, instead it continues to blink orange.

I have tried unplugging and replugging the device's cables (power/data/USB), as well as hitting the reset switch.

Does anyone know how to get the dockstar working on this router? DHCP server is enabled, and I was unable to see any setting that was limiting UDP, so, I'm kind of stumped right now. I tried logging into the drive on my.pogoplug.com as well as accessing the drive via the drive letter, network path, or included application.

Thank you for your time.

My DGL-4500 Has never created any issues with my device. Is your router giving your dockstar an IP address? Log into your router and look under network settings (at least that is where it's located with my firmware 1.02) and see if your device is listed.

Thanks for the advice DarkKnight. When I look there, I do not see my dockstar listed. My other computers were given an IP address, but I guess either the dockstar is not being given one, or it is not visible to the router for some reason. Any steps to take from here?

Assign it an IP address manually. Look for the MAC address on your P/P it's a 12 digit alpha-numeric string.

In your router settings: Go Basic -> Network Settings; Look towards the bottom with "DHCP Reservations List" & "Add DHCP Reservation". Copy the MAC address into the proper field. Assign it an IP address not already in the DHCP list, but within the range of 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.255, type a name, check "Enabled" then click save. Reboot your router if needed and/or unplug and replug your P/P's network cable to restart the DHCP process.

If that *still* doesn't work, take screen-shots of your router settings on that page and Status -> Device Info and send them to me via PM, do not post it publicly.

Thanks for the continued advice. I was able to find the device's MAC address, clearly listed. I gave it a reserved IP address within that range that was not in use, checked Enabled, then clicked Save. I rebooted the router and the dockstar multiple times, and checked the MAC address and IP address to make sure they were correct.

It now lists the device under LAN computer in the main screen, however, the light still continues to blink orange rather than to stay lit green, and does not appear to be usable in any way.

I'll be PM'ing you shortly. Again, thanks for all the effort, and if anyone else has any clues, feel free to drop them by.

Add one more screen to that list please. Advanced -> Advanced network

As a troubleshooting step, try plugging your P/P directly into your modem instead of through the router. Reboot Modem & P/P if required. See if that gets you a green light.

I have looked over your settings, they do not differ significantly from mine, and nothing really stands out as causing this. I have multicast enabled, where you don't, but I don't think that would be a problem. It's useful for LLTD.

I too had a Dockstar that worked pretty much without fail for several months. One day the orange light started flashing and I tried pretty much everything you have done to get it to work. I hadn't changed a thing when mine started blinking. There aren't exactly a lot of troubleshooting steps you can take, so I got with Seagate and they replaced the unit. The replacement has been working fine for the last month and a half. I have no idea what happened, but suspect if the firmware somehow got corrupted that may have caused it, or it could have simply been a hardware failure.

You may need to get with Seagate and get a replacement. I didn't have any problems with Seagate on getting it replaced.

There might be troubleshooting steps you take via SSH to see what is actually happening on the plug, though I don't know for certain what options are available on a vanilla P/P/Dockstar. I would try installing openpogo (v1) and let that boot up to see if it gets working before executing a warranty claim, if only for expediency. Be wary of your warranty status with regards to using openpogo. I don't know how that affects dockstars.

Well, just to confirm, I tried DarkKnight's recommendations: I plugged in my old Linksys WRT54GC router, confirmed that it worked, then tried to Dockstar on it a few times... no dice.

It appears that, coincidentally, my Dockstar has a problem, and cannot sync.

Looks like I'll be contacting Seagate to see if I can get a replacement... bought it off woot.com for $25 back in late June 2010. So the unit is only 2.5 months old. Either that or I'll look into DarkKnight's recommendation of trying openpogo (v1), though I'm not familiar with it.

-----------------

I usually try to be very delicate with networking products, so, I don't think I physically damaged it. Maybe it was just a fluke.

-----------------

Regardless, I'm glad all of this is cleared up. It would seem that the D-Link DGL-4500 should work fine with Pogoplug devices, and that my problem was that of hardware failure on the Dockstar

-----------------

I had started thinking it would end up being the Dockstar and not the router when *every* other device worked seamlessly (Nintendo Wii, Desktop connected by ethernet, desktop connected by old D-Link 54G wifi adapter, laptop connected by Intel 3945abg 54G wifi adapter, netbook connected by built-in b/g/n adapter, and my HTC Touch Pro (AT@T Fuze)connected by built-in wifi).

------------------

Again much thanks to those offering help, you went above and beyond what I expected. I still enjoy the Dockstar, Pogoplug service, and router, and plan to continue using them all.

Cheers.
