I'm cross posting this from the Drobo forums

http://www.drobospace.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=1630

-------------

This is my setup:

Drobo 2nd gen connected via USB to Mac running 10.6.4. Dashboard is v 1.7.3.

I also have a pogoplug connected, running v2.1.2.

If I have a pogoplug drive mounted on my desktop, and launch the drobo dashboard, the dashboard just hangs at the 'Ready for Connection" screen.

If I look at my console, i see:

9/1/10 9:34:32 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.datarobotics.ddserviced[782]) Job appears to have crashed: Bus error
9/1/10 9:34:32 PM com.apple.ReportCrash.Root[775] 2010-09-01 21:34:32.281 ReportCrash[775:4e3f] Saved crash report for DDServiced[782] version ??? (???) to /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/DDServiced_2010-09-01-213432_localhost.crash

This repeats ever 10s.

I also see this scattered in there:

9/1/10 9:36:55 PM fseventsd[41] scan_old: bailing out because device mounted @ /Volumes/Pogoplug has dls 0x0 and dls->fci 0x0

However, if I unmount the pogoplug disk (still have the pogoplug app running), and run the dashboard, it works.

Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks

Having the exact same problem.

Have a first gen Drobo, get the same "Ready for connection" message.

If I quit dashboard then unmount pogo drives, quit pogoplug desktop and relaunch dashboard it works fine.

What's up?

Thanks for posting - don't think I would have figured it out otherwise.

Yes - I have exactly the same issue with my DroboDashboard and the PogoPlug Desktop software. My Drobo is also a Mk1 and I am using latest software and firmware from Drobo and Pogoplug.

Would be interested in the resolution of this problem.

Ditto. just got my Pogoplug and I see the same thing. Posted over in Drobospace too.

Same problem here : DroboDashboad and Pogoplug together = big mess, simply does not work ! Drobo is more essential than Pogoplug, so I trash Pogoplug :-(

Yep. Just started experiencing this myself. 1st Gen Firewire DROBO and PogoPlug. Unmount the Pogo and quit the app, start up DROBO dashboard and everything is fine again with it.

What up????

I have a 2nd Generation Drobo (v1.3.7 firmware) via Firewire and a PogoPlug Pro and both run fine - but - I have to run Drobo Dashboard 1.6.8 with Pogoplug 2.5.5. Running SL 10.6.5

Dashboard 1.7.3 /does/ /not/ /work/. Period. Run Dashboard 1.6.8 and all is well. Please note - this is a PP Pro (black) not the pink unit.

Waiting for Dashboard 1.8.2 from Drobo Support which is supposed to address these issues.

Confirmed also have the same problem. Running Dashboard 1.7.3 and Firmware 1.3.7.

Will google to see if I can use a beta dashboard or revert to 1.6.8 as per EG's post.

Also, for me its not just a case of Drobo Dashboard being stuck on a screen, I get a finder error copying files to my Drobo when pogoplug app is running - Error -36.

Serious problem for Pogoplug if it wants to go up against Drobo for my affection!

Hope for a fix/update soon so these can live peacefully together!

Same problem here with Drobo Mk.I and Pogoplug. Was fighting to find the problem entire yesterday evening. Glad to see can confirm the problem, as I have been checking everything even down to cables to find out what caused the problem, without luck. Will try to revert back to dashboard 1.6.8.

I've also been having the issue of DroboDashboard crashing on my 2nd Generation Drobo when I launch PogoPlug. Support sent me version 1.8.2, but it continues to crash. Would be interested in hearing whether rolling back to 1.6.8 resolves the issue (and what might be lost by rolling back), and where I can obtain an old copy.
Cheers,
Peter O.

I see 1.8.3 is out, but doesn't fix the problem.... Drobo Dashboard still crashes whenever I launch PogoPlug. [Version 1.6.8 works fine, but 1.7.3, 1.8.2 and now 1.8.3 all crash).

PeterO,

Would you mind saying how to get hold of Drobo Dashboard 1.8.3, or even 1.8.2?
Drobo website still points to 1.7.3 as being the latest version.

BTW, I am having the same issue: I Can't use Drobo Dashboard and PogoPlug at the same time. Whose fault is it? Drobo or Pogo?

Thanks,

Andy

Andy, Drobo Technical Support sent me a link to 1.8.2:

ftp://updates.drobo.com/dashboard/mac/drobodashboardinstaller_1.8.2.dmg

And then today when I started Drobo Dashboard it asked whether I wanted to download update to 1.8.3. Neither work with PogoPlug. If you want to post your email, I can send you 1.6.8, which does co-exist fine with PogoPlug. Or you might prefer to contact Drobo Support.

I've submitted the problem to Drobo Support. Initially they said to contact PogoPlug, but when I pointed out 1.68 works fine and its the later versions of Dashboard that crash, they agreed to investigate and today I sent them crash logs.

Good luck,
Peter O.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but I had the exact same problem when I got my Dockstar, so I contacted PogoPlug's support team and had a lengthy correspondence with them.

On Wed, Jul 21, 2010, I receive the following official response from PogoPlug:

"Drobo Dashboard will only function when Drobo is directly attached to your Mac or Windows computer."

I then asked about the Disk Quota that is being displayed in Windows, which as 2TB instead of the 1TB that Drobo gives me due to its RAID configuration:

"The 'Files shared with me' 2TB/4TB view is a workaround Engineering implemented to avoid a Windows out of memory error when copying to folders within Files shared with me.

As for the drive capacity of your Drobo under Windows Explorer, the capacity free and total capacity information should display correctly for any drives attached to Pogoplug."

I followed-up with asking about Linux alternatives:

"Drobo has online documentation for using a Drobo with Linux, as well as running the Drobo Dashboard on Linux. It's disappointing that since there is probably such a large fan base of pogoplug using drobos, that this has not been implemented, but i'm guessing that is probably a licensing issue competing with the DroboShare."

Their response was:

"I agree with you, as Linux becomes more attractive, all in one installers will become the norm. I myself and the entire Development team are Linux enthusiasts so we will all keep an eye on the progress of Linux adoption in the world."

Finally, when I inquired about 3rd Party, Open-Source alternatives, like PogoApps, here's the response I got on Thu, Jul 29, 2010

"At the present time, our Development team is not actively working with any Open Source projects. It's not that developers are not willing; other priorities are taking precedence right now."

Recently, I uncovered another application:

http://www.amahi.org/

I'm going to attempt to give it a try this weekend with my Dockstar to see what happens.

On a personal note, I'd like to thank Christopher from the PogoPlug support team for his assistance, time, and correspondence.

I think there's some confusion between two issues here.

As far as getting Drobos that are connected to Pogoplug devices to show up in Dashboard (which is what @technomensch is bringing up), a Drobo will not show up in Drobo Dashboard unless:
- it's directly connected to the computer (if it's USB, Firewire or eSATA)
- it's a network enabled Drobo (like an FS, Pro, Elite, etc.)
- it's connected to a DroboShare

Any other connection will not show up in Dashboard. If you hook your Drobo to a Pogoplug/Dockstar, it won't show up in Drobo Dashboard.

HOWEVER, the issue that I see started this thread (and the one I had) is not that. It's that there is some conflict between the Pogoplug software and the Drobo Dashboard software. Even if you have a directly connected Drobo, if you run the Pogoplug software then the Drobo software doesn't work right.

Did I get this right? Drobo don't seem to understand the issue either, the response from their rep in the forums there was an even more cryptic "Drobo units will not connect to Dashboard through a 3rd party device, if you are not using an Ethernet connection." ???

February 4, 2011 8:53 AM

My drobo IS NOT connected to my PogoPlug. It is directly connected to my Mac & I am having the same issues as everyone else. The Drobo dashboard and the PogoPlug software will not work at the same time.

To PeterO: Thanks a lot Peter, I downloaded version 1.8.2 and will give it a try (not right now since it requires a reboot). Nice of you to have given some hints to Drobo Support. I have submitted a ticket to Drobo last night as well, yet to get a reply.

I'd appreciate version 1.6.8 if you could. Here's an email you can use for me for a limited time: temmmp (at) me.com (I'm sure you understand why I am writing it this way, just use @ appropriately. This is a temporary address)

To technomensch: Thanks for your input, but I'll second what others are saying here:

This thread is NOT about connecting a Drobo to a PogoPlug,
it is about having a Drobo directly attached to a Mac (Firewire, USB), while also having a PogoPlug device independently of the Drobo.

In my case, the simple fact to have a PogoPlug volume mounted in the file system makes Drobo Dashboard fail to connect to my directly-attached Drobo. If I eject the PogoPlug volume, then the dashboard connects right away.
There is clearly a conflict between Drobo Dashboard software and the fact that a PogoPlug volume is mounted.

February 4, 2011 6:58 PM

My Drobo is also connected directly to my Mac by firewire. In my case, when I start Dashboard when PogoPlug is mounted, Dashboard crashes within a minute. If I try to restart Dashboard, I get a message that "a required portion of Drobo Dashboard is no longer running" and it won't connect. The crashes are reproducible and consistent in Dashboard versions 1.7.3, 1.8.2 and 1.8.3, but version 1.6.8 works just fine. I have submitted system profiles and crash logs to Drobo Support and hope they can resolved and advise. I'll be sure to post when I hear back.
Cheers,
Peter O.

Exactly the same problem with memeo share. Solved by eliminating Memeo from my system.

March 27, 2011 1:23 PM updated: March 27, 2011 1:24 PM

Same problem here. Mac Mini, OSX 10.6.7, Drobo directly connected via Firewire NOT via PogoPlug.

If PogoPlug is running, Dashboard displays "Waiting to connect" and floods the console log with bus error messages. If I turn off PogoPlug, all is well. Would really like to be able to use both at the same time.

This thread started over six months ago. Does anyone from Pogo follow the forums or are we just whining amongst ourselves?

March 27, 2011 1:29 PM

I had reported this issue to DataRobotics and sent them some log files to help diagnose the problem. It took awhile, but I finally received the following update:

"This will be resolved in Drobo Dashboard 2.0.0 and higher seen here: http://drobo.com/resources/drobo_dashboard.php

There is no ETA on when this version will be released."

In the meantime, I'm running Drobo Dashboard 1.6.8 which seems to be running fine and co-exists nicely with PogoPlug.

Cheers,
Peter O.

PeterO - Good to hear, but where do you get Dashboard 1.6.8?

March 27, 2011 1:46 PM

Maxwell, sorry but I don't know where you can download 1.6.8. I could email you a copy if you provide your address. In order to avoid spambots, you should post your email cryptically - see the posting above by Evolut on 4-Feb-2011.

March 27, 2011 2:07 PM

Thanks Peter - you can send it to emmanuelradnitsky at our old friend gmail. Much appreciated!

March 27, 2011 2:49 PM

Peter O - Many thanks - Dashboard 1.6.8 works just fine with PogoPlug. Now, we can just hope 2.0.0 (no ETA) will work too.
