I've downloaded the 3.0 upgrade to my HTC Desire today, but apart from a new front end login screen I can't seem to tell any difference between this and the previous version. Does anyone know what was changed?

This is what is mentioned in their blog.

-       Upload and download any file type and size

-       Improved audio handling: now the audio file in any folder or filter will begin playing after the first one finishes—it will also continue playing when the phone sleeps

-       Photo viewing is truly full screen: your pictures are larger because the control buttons only appear when you press the screen

I notice an increase in performance. I also uploaded a video file to my Pogoplug yesterday from my phone and it was 80 Megabytes! I thought for sure it would fail...but it worked!

August 23, 2010 6:49 PM

OK, so I've found pictures to be slightly larger when viewed in landscape mode, but certainly not fullscreen, unless the picture was taken in a 16:9 mode on a camera in the first place.

I can upload and download pictures.

Has anybody been able to download music to their phone as opposed to just streaming it? I sure as hell haven't.
If anyone knows how to do it can they post here please.

Music still takes absolutley ages >2 minutes to start streaming on both HSPA and at home on my Network. Why is this? When you stream via the web interface to a PC it begins playing in seconds as it does when the desktop app is used too.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

(Another Rant Over)!!

What has happened with this 3.0 update. Whether it is specific with an HTC Desire or not I don't know, but now I AM UNABLE TO STREAM ANY MUSIC WHATSOEVER to it. I can see the folder but all I get is the "Please Wait....Streaming Audio" box appear. Anybody have any ideas before I send a report in to the support team?
This really is not good enough. I am spending more time trying to sort out problems with this pogoplug than I am actually using it.

Rob68, can't speak to the Desire but v3.0 app is working fine at streaming music to a Droid X. I have just (today) gotten the Pogoplug working in a configuration that is close to what I was after (USB hard drives just arrived) so I haven't had any long time experience but one of the things that I did check was the android app on the Droid X. Started the app and was steaming music from this app from a good hour or so while I explored and fixed other things. FYI.

Kymikes thanks for the info. I have managed to get it to work again on both hsdpa and wifi, but it streams for usually 4 or 5 tracks then stops and locks up. I'm wondering whether it is because all my mp3's are encoded at 320 kbps. I also have a 2 minute gap when playing back before the next track begins. How many kbps are your tracks?

August 26, 2010 3:13 PM updated: August 26, 2010 3:18 PM

I don't know if this will help but, all my music is 256k and it usually only takes 2-5 seconds between tracks. Every once and a while it will take longer. If I log out of the app and back in it seen to fix it. All my photo display full screen as well. I'm am on a EVO 4G, Using 3G network.

I have just bought pogoplug, works fine. But the app,V.30 really bad i'm afraid, ages to stream music, on lan or 3g. locks up my htc legend. And then plays while streaming with out being able to pauseor set volume levels etc. Any advice welcome from the developer. Would be willing to pay for a good well presented app with download and up facilities that work.

roelf, sorry to hear about your problems but i must say its good to find someone who has exactly the same problems with this 3.0 app as I have had. I haven't been able to test it on my HTC Desire recently but it would be interesting to know if support can help you better than they helped me. Please post back with any progress report.

Streaming works just fine here: HTC Desire, Android 2.1

September 2, 2010 2:28 PM

Holsen,
Can I ask you what you are using to stream to your Desire. What make/size Hard Drive, What music is encoded at? (mine are all mostly mp3s @ 320 kbps but i have some at 128 which play, but are only marginally quicker to access after one song has finished). I have a few WMA's and they often start to play quicker than mp3's. Do you have any problems on either wifi or 3g?
I have been able to stream 128 kbps mp3's for just over half an hour maximum before the app locked up. I left it on the home screen and it started again after skipping the next track and waiting for another 10 minutes. - It's very frustrating and I'm getting nowhere with PP Support!!

Not a good experience so far.

Desire Android 2.2
Wifi connected to LAN

Problems with just about anything I've tried to do.

I should be able to download any file, cant find how to download a music track

Music streaming virtually doesn't work (works OK onto laptop)
- "Please wait. Streaming Audio..." for long periods
and frequently
- red box "Either Android does not support streaming of this file or...."
often
- red box "not an audio file" (they are and they work just fine via other aps)
and
- red box "
very occasionally
- 5 or 6 second burst of music!!
several times
- system just appears to hang
and severeal
- force close

Photos - many dont work via filter but are OK direct

Haven't tried video or anything else yet.

Rather lost the will to do anything other than pack my Pogoplug back up.

Guy, have you submitted a request to the support team yet?
As you can probably see, with regards to the streaming of music, I have had and still get sometimes ALL those symptoms too on a Desire with 2.1.
I'll be interested to hear what support say about your problems.
DON'T GIVE UP. It may work properly....one day!!
Are your symptoms the same on both WiFi and 3G?
Tried mine again today. Would not play at all so left it on Home screen, phone then went to sleep and 15 minutes later the music began to play!! It's all very frustrating. - Good Luck.

UPDATE: Support are going to try and test it from their end as they say all their Android handsets work ok in their office. I'll post again when they've tried it.

September 3, 2010 3:48 PM

Maybe I will but lifes too short and I've now installed Dropbox and its giving me the functionality I want.

I'm not initerested in streaming, I just want to upload and download files home.

September 4, 2010 7:21 AM

Ok, I tested mp3 more thorougly. Streaming does not work very reliable. Quite often loading files takes forever or never ends (even on WiFi). When you press the back key while a file loads, the whole mp3 function goes brakes. That means you have to close the PP App with a task killer to be able to stream an mp3 music file again.

Try to using a task killer, close all other apps. Start the Pogoplug app and see if that helps. Also download the app "speed test" (by speedtest.net) to determine you actual internet speed. If that is too slow, try changing the WiFi Channel on your router, get a repeater or external antennas for your router.

I already use the Speedtest app. I get around the 4meg mark on WiFi and 2 on HSDPA, which I think should be ok. On wifi i get the same slow effect on both a strong connection next to the router and on a weaker signal a fair distance away from it.
I currently have given support, temporary access to my pogoplug and they have told me they have noticed a fault even via the web. It is slow to load my music files they tell me. They are going to investigate over the coming week.

Download any file type..... aside from any music or video file.

I have the latest Android App (Version 3) and have two USB sticks in my PogoPlug.

The app is great but each of the drive entries is repeated twice. My current list is

Movies. Photos, Music, Stick1, Stick2, Stick1, Stick2, Files I share, My Saved Files.

It is not really a killer as it seems to work normally when I select the drive.

I do have to wait some time now and again (with my screen dimmed) but it does not happen often (just when I am demonstrating it to a mate)

Keep up the good work

Thanks

I started seeing this issue as well a couple of days ago. List all drives twice. App still work fine.

September 13, 2010 2:15 PM

Update on my Streaming Problems with this app. The Support team have investigated further and seem to believe that the problem lies with my mp3's! It would appear that 320kbps is a little too much for the Android App to handle. I am not really satisfied with their findings and asked the question, "Why does it stream flawlessly on my laptop on the very same Network"? I got no definitive answer. All I got was that they would continue to develop the Android App. In my opinion, it is the App that is not good enough and needs some serious development.
Anyone else having similar problems, should check the bitrates of their music. I certainly can't alter my entire mp3 collection in order for it to work, unless anyone knows of a bitrate reducer program capable of doing multiple songs at once.
