Hello,

I understand transcoding happens actually on my device but what happens to the file once it's transcoded? Where is it stored? What happens to original file? I undertstand I can transcode files myself but where do I store them once transcoded? I only want transcoded videos for web access, I want original ones still be in place since they are used on LAN in original high quality format.

Transcoded files are stored in a hidden directory called .cedata on your harddrive. Your original files are not altered in any way. Right now there isn't a great way to make it possible to see transcoded files on the web and originals locally unless you're using your PS3 or Xbox - you can choose which version to see by changing the transcode setting to never (forces the Pogoplug to show the original) or always (forces the Pogoplug to show the transcoded version).

Thanks. Can I somehow speedup "generating thumbnail" process? It seems to take forever, can I use desktop somehow to generate those.

Unfortunately there isn't. I have many photos and videos being moved to a Pogoplug right now, and the thumbnail generation is indeed slow. For video, a transcode is somwehre between 8-10 frames per second, or about 2-4 seconds to transcode for every second of video, so it does take some time.

Why do the files need to be transcoded? It's a process I don't understand. I'm not really interested in streaming to my Android phone. I mainly just want to access the movies from computers and my PS3.
