I have encoded .mp4 files that play when I transfer them via USB to the HTC EVO.  When I place them on the Pogo and access the very same file, the EVO says the file is not supported.  I tried changing the media settings to "transcode" and it didn't work, I tried "never transcdode" and had the same results.

Here's what I discovered:

If you use a program like Adobe Media Encoder (I have CS5) and choose H.264 as the format with YouTube as the style, it will stream just fine.

I have 2MB line out of the house, so I keep the bandwidth between 500k and 1500k.

The solution to getting videos to stream is to render them as a YouTube compatible MP4 file. [This includes the "fast start" option in the header which allows the video to play before it is fully downloaded.]

For those without CS5 (pretty costly software)...handbrake from handbrake.fr is a free tool that converts files to many formats and if you choose H.264 and you're making a mp4 file, check the "web optimized" box and let it convert the file. Works like a champ. Every video I've done this way streams great over Sprint 3G or wifi to my Samsung Epic Droid phone.

I have downloaded handbrake. I added the source file .avi and set it for output as web optimized as well as MKV file type. It is also set as h.264 and it still did not stream, I also set is mp4 which comes out as M4V and it still says "this file type is not currently supported"

I am running a samsung captivate running 2.2 Froyo.... Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi ThaVisionary,

I am pretty sure that if you encode them as MKV that they will not work. I do not think Android phones support MKV. Try re encoding them as MP4 and see if this works. And if I am wrong, please, someone correct me. Good luck!!!
