AVI files transcoded through my pogoplug work fine on my HTC Desire. When I say fine, I mean they play the whole file eventually, but they do buffer a lot.
I set up the Android app on my HTC EVO.
It works great on Sprint's 3G and 4G networks.
I am confused about the video streaming. Most of my videos are .AVI. Will the Pogo transcode for the EVO to play? It worked for the 10 second preview, but when I selected to transcode the whole file, the app said it was an unsupported format.
Is there a way to set up a playlist for music?
Thanks
On my Evo, it sese that this file is currently not supported, when I try to stream videos from my hard drive with the pogoplug, but I can see the thumbnails, any one else with this problem ?
I have an EVO and I'm having the same issue. I've transcoded everything you can think of (avi, mov, vob, mp4, mpeg) I get nothing. I have unchecked the automatic transcode but there is no difference. Every video file says currently not supported.
I have an EVO. I have transcoded to MP4 and sometimes the file will start ok, but will then give a file currently not supported error or an "Error playing video. Error code-100".
Mp4 files play on my EVO, but no joy with MOV or AVI files.
I also noticed that once I try to play an unsupported video, the CPU usage goes to 100% and stays there until I force close the app. Found this out because my battery went from full to dead in less than 2 hours.
When I'm using wifi my pogo plug streaming works fine but when I try to use it with my 4g on which has a faster connection it won't work. Does the android app support 4g?
Use Vplayer from Marketplace and you can view your MP4 and AVI videos with no problem. Normally what I do for video is to use "Handbrake", select iphone format and check option for "web streaming". It compresses a 2 hour video to anywhere between 700- 900 mb and streams seamlessly on Vplayer (though I've also used successfully mVideoplayer and MoboPlayer as well). I always select on pogoplug app "watch original". Don't mess with the optimization option with Pogoplug; it's really not their strong point. Handbrake is your friend and PogoPro streams great over 3G (yes, 3G), WiMax and WiFi. Enjoy!
I have an older Droid Incredible. try moboplayer. it's free and supports AVI and MP4. i bought vPlayer but prefer moboplayer.
for best practice, make sure your files are at a resolution your video viewing target can handle. if it has to scale or convert, it will tax the cpu on your phone. also, smaller the file, the better as eventually the entire file will get transferred to the memory of your device. streaming only limits the amount of data being sent so it can be viewable.
as for the question of speed over 4G, it;s not your phone's speed but your home internet providers upload speed which needs to be observed. i doesn;t take much bandwidth to stream effectively but you do need atleast a couple of variables that could mess you up-from a stable connection from your phone to your provider to whether your internet provider throttles your upload speeds and general internet congestion. you don;t see these variables on a local connection.
