My setup is the following:

Slingcatcher wired to Dlink DAP-1522 wireless to Dlink DIR-655

WD 1TB Mybook wired to Seagate Dockstar (Pogoplug) wired to Dlink DIR-655

I have tried all possible combinations that I normally use in Windows (Windows 7) in the slingcatcher storage input:

\\FADS1A2519\Seagate FreeAgentDesktop

\\FADS1A2519\Seagate FreeAgentDesktop\

\\FADS1A2519\

\\FADS1A2519

\\FADS1A2519\Seagate FreeAgentDesktop\Movies

Nothing works.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I received the first tip that perhaps my Samba settings need tweaking.

Hi NicBald,

Glad you found us here.

On the Windows File Sharing setup on the pogoplug webpage, did you set the access permission to Read and write or Read only. The Catcher needs both read and write.

Yes, it has been set to read and write.

That would have been to simple. :)

What error message does it give you and when?

Network share or NAS device error messages on SlingCatcher:

Here are the error messages that you may see on SlingCatcher and what they mean.

While trying to connect to a network drive:

  • Incorrect user name or password!
(Enter the correct user name or password.)
  • Invalid network share name.
(Check the URL for your NAS or your network share to make sure that it’s correct.)
  • Read-only network drives are not supported.
(You must have set up specific permissions on the share that allow for read/write access. Please refer to the Microsoft and Apple sites for information on sharing.)
  • No network connection.
(Double-check to make sure that SlingCatcher has a network connection. The red Network light on the front of your SlingCatcher must be on.)

Are you familiar with SSH and know how to log into the Pogoplug using something like PuTTY or the like? Maybe you can grab your smb.conf file and post it here.

I am having this same issue right now. I just setup my Dockstar yesterday, and when I first added the drive it was working using this input (\\FADS1A2519\Seagate FreeAgentDesktop). However, today it doesn't seem to be recognizing it any longer. I am gettig the Invalid Network Share Name error message. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be great.

Brandon, I'm not familiar with SSH, is there something else I can try?

Ok, after writing my previous reply it was working for a day again, but now it's not working once again. I'm confident the share drive path is correct because the slingcatcher allowed me to add the path without any issue, it just seems to work intermittently though. Is it possible the dockstar/hdd goes into some sort of sleep mode that could cause this?
