Currently, you can't select specific files or folders to be accessible/scanned on the Pogoplug, but this is something that has been mentioned on the forums by other members.
You can turn off media scanning in the settings screen, though.

Hello,
I have a rather large USB drive that is mostly a linux filesystem on it and another usb drive that has lots of files that I don't want scanned or shared at all. I have 1 directory on each of those 2 drives that I would like the pogo s/w to share play on my ps3, but leave/ignore everything else. I currently don't see a way to limit the dirs to scan/share/play(on ps3) at all.
My pogo plug currently lists (473604 items pending processing), which is all linux filesystem files. There is no reason for the pogo to "process" any of those files. I want to limit the scanning to say "/share" on each of my usb drives only.
Thanks,
Walt
Well, that is certainly less than ideal. This drive has all of my media I actually want to share and show on the PS3. But the pogoplug is spending all of it's time searching in directories that it should never share....
I would think it would be a very simple feature to add. Select these N (1 or more) directories to watch/scan/share/publish....ignore everything else. Seems like a no brainer to me.
I'm going to look to Pogoplug for some more clarification on this, but I believe you do have some control over what is actually *transcoded* but it will still scan and process meta-data if you tell it to.
If you go into the media processing options, you can tell the Pogoplug to never transcode your files automatically. You can also tell it to never process (scan) media meta-data or generate any thumbnails. The limitation (at least, for now) is that you can't set it folder by folder.
If you turn transcoding off, you can select individual files to transcode fully from the same settings menu, too.
I have the exact same problem, and I really cannot believe that this is so rarely requested, or that development staff thinks it is a better idea to provide samba printing functionality over simple folder restrictions.
I have a Tb drive connected, that has a LOT of data files on it. Many are mp3 , whcih are in a 'music' folder, and I of course would like them shared. But hundreds are pdf files and illustrator images that I have created (for work) that I don't particularly want to show up in the list on my iPhone app. And there are tons of jpgs (stock photos used in other work projects) in some of these folders that are showing up in a completely random manner in the 'photos' folder, rendering that feature useless as well.
It seems insane that there is no way to exclude folders from the indexing.
Ok this is pretty freakin rediculous. That scan..is STILL going on my pogoplug. June 26th to July 11th. 24/7...pogogplug is scanning....and generating thumbnails for thousands of files it should never even be looking at.
This is stupid. Why can't I tell the plug not to scan certain directories?
THIS IS SO BASIC!!
ugh. Very unhappy right now.
(1034738 items pending processing)
Scanning media.... Processing.. 22:42:56
*sigh* It's not sufficient to disable the functionality completely people. We need to be able to control where the stupid hbplug is allowed to look.
I just bought Pogoplug and immediately ran into this problem. I hope Pogoplug will allow the user to select which folders to scan and for what purpose.
It is really overkill to scan the entire shared hard disk, because it can contain
a lot of irrelevant files.
Just as a follow up, I switched to the plugbox linux implementation shortly after [my initial] post, and have never looked back. The pogoplug service that you lose is not nearly worth the headache that goes with it, and there is apparently no chance of even this basic feature being fixed.
If you have even an ounce of technical ability...or even the ability to follow instructions, you can have plugbox linux up and runningin about the same time you have spent looking for a solution to this very basic SMB share issue.
A good solution could be the android OS one:
Simply put a file named .nomedia in the directory you don't want to scan.
Or put a "." in front of a directory name. For exemple:
- directory pictures will be scan.
- directory .pictures will never be scan.
Is this impossible ?
/bump. Same prob here.. 2 TB disks.. and i love to exclude some dirs.
Is there a special place on the forum where we can 'vote' for changes we would like?
1> Exclude directories
2> unbundling the drive utility. I have a PP pro and just need to map a drive.. nothing more
3> possibility to delete files from jukebox directly instead of browsing to folder location..
maybe others have whislists too?
I think they are sleeping or something like that....
This feature is very annoying
Opening up this issue again.
I have my pogoplug over 2 year now. I have never really used the device because of this reason.
When do a full file backup, I have a lot of system file or application files that are .jpg and does not belong in my photo gallery. Why can't something this simple be addressed?
woaloo said: I hope the pogoplug V4 HAVE this feature....
It doesn't. As of right now, the Series 4 is running the same firmware version as the older models.

It's a BIG BIG MISTAKE from pogoplug developers !!!
I think I'm going to see other brand.....
Actually this is possible. what you need to do is to modify /usr/local/cloudengines/hbplug.conf as follows to disable hotplug and specify which folder you want to be accessed from the web.
......
vfsdir= path of the folder you would like to scan in your hard drive
......
nohotplug=1
Then only the folder you specified will be scanned and accessible from the web interface. The drawback is every time you un-plug and plug back your hard drive, you need to run "/usr/local/cloudengines/bin/hbplug_init restart". Also, when you have multiple hard drives attached, it would be tricky if you want to access all of them from the web.
Great,
It's a nice trick, but as you say, I have 3 HD, so it's a bit hard to do this everytime I reboot my pogoplug.
But it could be useful.
Thanks man.
Woohoo! Thank you @Livis! :)
@Woaloo : this looks like a permanent solution, did you need to re-edit the .conf file after reboots, or was this speculation?
It's just speculation as said Livis:

I don't even know how I can edit these files. I think that these files are in the pogoplug OS, but I don't know how and where I can access them.
A bit help could be welcome... ;-)
