Boy, did I get mislead in purchasing this solution.  I WOULD NOT RELAY ON THIS PRODUCT TO PERFORM BACKUPS ON ANY OF MY PCs.  And if you are looking for internal NAS storage, THIS IS NOT THE PRODUCT YOU WANT.

This product is fun to play with to share files with friends and family and to access files remotelely.  But sharing pictures and videos with this product is soooooo slow, my friends and family don't even bother trying any longer.  I have now resumed copying files directly up to facebook.

As far as NAS capabilities, it's nice if you have an internet connection.  But if for some reason your ISP is down, you are out of luck!  You have to have access to the internet to see your internal drives on your internal network!!!  I view this as a huge flaw in this product.  I was assured that this was not the case when I was considering purchasing PogoPlug.

I have seen others on the forum complain about the speeds of accessing their pogoplugged shared drives internally on their network.  This has been disputed by some.  But there is a performance degregation FOR SURE.

So, the only value I get from this product is to be able to access my files on my internal network when I am traveling.  This is nice, but not sure it's worth the price for this as I can do the same with Logmein and other similar products.

bumped for paragraph number 3.

Why is it that the pogoplug goes offline for network access when the outside internet goes down? I lost my internet for 2 days, so while I was at home, I lost access to all my movies I had stored on pogoplug connected drives.

I don't think it would be that hard to change the way the pogoplug program access the actual pogoplug. Maybe first check to see if it is seen on the local network, then have the credentials stored on the device itself so you can log in easier at home. Then if you're on the road, it checks in using the web check-in.

However, I have not had speed issues on my network. It speeds along at the same speeds as every other device on my N network.

As far as access speeds on the go, I get whatever the max upload speed is, normally 1 megabit per second or so.

@JLail - who told you that the a PogoPlug would work without an internet connection? Regardless of what one might think of that requirement, it should be well known to our dealers, and we would not be happy to hear that they are giving out erroneous information.

I have performed further tests and have not found any performance issues as I once thought.  The problem ended up being with my 'work' mac book pro that is connected to a different network via VPN, but still using the same network infrastructure.
