With Pogoplug, you essentially create your own "cloud storage" with a USB drive you already have.
In other words, you could connect one of the external drives that you have to your Pogoplug, and then be able to access those files from any computer connected to the Internet or via the My.Pogoplug web client. This is great for music, as you are doing in your case.
You can also use Pogoplug's Active Copy feature to back up the contents of the drive to your other external drive.
To clarify - Pogoplug does not upload or store files on somebody else's server, though. So, if you bought a Pogoplug and set it up how I described, you'd be getting lots of extra functionality but not an extra, off-site backup on somebody else's servers. For that you would have to use a different service.
It is pretty easy to integrate other cloud storage programs in with Pogoplug. I use MobileMe to sync my documents but then use Active Copy to back them up to my Pogoplug, for example.

Hello: I am considering buying a pogo plug because I heard a well known tech journalist and radio host, Leo Laporte, talk about the device. What got my attention was that he said another great feature was that it could also could provide a large amount of storage in the cloud. I didn't understand exactly how that would work and having watched the tutorial still am not sure.
I have approximately 60 gigabytes of music files on an external drive and have them backed up to another external drive. I also want to back up to the cloud in some way and am looking for a good resource for that. There are back up programs that I would have to pay monthly for (drop box, carbonite, etc . . . but Pogo Plug interests me because it is a one time purchase and not a monthly fee. Could someone enlighten me if what I want to accomplish can be done with Pogo Plug?
Thanks!
I have large website files that I regularly download to my computer from cpanel of my host. I was going to buy an external storage device (something in the region of 1TB of storage) but I thought the Pogoplug would essentially do the same thing but on cloud. I then went ahead and ordered the Pogoplug instead of the external USB storage device. Can the Pogoplug be used as a back up source other than my own computer for my website files because I would really like to keep the files in two separate locations just in case something goes wrong with the computer.
Have I made a mistake in ordering the Pogoplug because I am now coming to the understanding (after a bit of reading) its not really a backup device as such?
Why doesn't my PogoPlug-connected hard drive show up as a backup option in either Windows (7 - 64-bit) Backup or Norton 360 Backup programs? What is the simplest way to make it visible to these backup programs? I have a 2TB Micronet Fantom Drive connected to the PogoPlug USB port and want to use it for backup from three or four networked computers using either Norton 360 or Windows own backup/restore program [all types of files, not just photos or music (none)]. I presently use it for common-point access to certain files and installation disk copies. It is good at that, but slow from a remote location over the Internet!
Thanks.
