1) If the Pogoplug is connected to the same LAN as your computer it will use it, not go out on WAN and then back in. So speed shouldn't be a issue at home.
2) It has 4 USB ports, 1 on side and 3 on the other. You can use a USB hub with it no problem. Up to like 64 USB drives. Can't say for sure if it will work with your RAID setup. You may need to contact Pogoplug directly with the setup specs to be sure or post your setup here and someone may be able to tell you for sure.
Hi all,
I just recently found out about Pogoplug by browsing one of the Mac magazines, and it sounds to me that this device is what I was looking for for a long time!I currently have 4 RAID arrays connected to my office computer at home - I then mount these drives on my MacMini in my living room (wired ethernet) to stream movies and music using Plex.
before I purchase the device I had some questions that I hope can be answered here on this friendly forum
As I said. the purpose of the Pogoplug will be mainly to stream video on my local network from several RAIDs and HDDs (USB 2 interface).
1. I have Verizon FIOS, is it compatible? I read that some people have slow connections with FIOS How fast will it run on my home network? will it be fast enough to stream HD movies? Currently I mount the remote drives on the Mac (OS X Snow Leopard) and use Plex to play my media, my goal with Pogoplug is to eliminated the need to mount all the drives and have them always mounted using Pogoplug, is that possible?
2. From looking at pictures of Pogoplug, it looks like it has 3 USB ports, I have far many more USB drives/RAIDs that I want to share, here is my question - does each drive needs to be directly connected to the Pogoplug? What if I connect a USB HUB to the Pogoplug and connect the other drives to the HUB would Pogoplug still recognize all the drives?
I have been thinking about buying NAS drive to replace my RAID and if Pogoplug works as I hope it will - it will save me hundreds if not thousands of dollars!
Thank you in advance for your help!
(I have done my best to find the answers to my questions by searching the forums, I apologize if the answers have been already answered - I could not find them
