I have setup Pogoplug and have it mounted as P: on my laptop. By way of a task scheduler, I backup my laptop nightly to the Pogoplug.

I only want touse the Pogoplug as a backup device and do NOT want any data accessible through the web, or through Pogoplug.com. Besides, I am paranoid that Pogoplug.com employees can theoretically access my Pogoplug drive and see all data on my laptop.

How do I only use Pogoplug as a backup device and prevent any access to my pogoplug from Pogoplug.com? I want to make it as secure as possible...I have no need to access data from the web or remotely.

Please advise, help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pretty sure this isn't possible. If all you wanted to do was backup, why not just get an external hard drive? Pogoplug is meant for sharing and accessing files remotely...if you have no interest in doing either of those things, then disconnect your Pogoplug and just attach the HDD directly to your laptop.

The Pogoplug affords me some useful backup options, including hiding the Pogoplug in near the router with the external drive (hardly takes any space). Keeping the external drive connected to my laptop at all times is not practical.

Anyone know if this can be done, even if it means rooting the Pogoplug or messing with the OS?

My guess would be that you could probably do this with packet filter rules at the firewall level. Run wireshark or something similar to see what packets are being sent/received when accessing the pogoplug across the external interface of your firewall and then block that with packet filter rules. This should still allow for all normal LAN operations but block access to/from the pogoplug from the WAN.
