Sorry about the frustration. Let me walk through a few of the issues:
1. Ejecting from the Mac (or Windows) app unmounts the virtual drive but does not eject the physical drive from your Pogoplug. This was done so that a user could remove the drive from the desktop, but not affect other users who were using the drive from other locations. In order to safely eject the physical drive, you need to sign in to my.pogoplug.com and click the eject icon next to the name of the drive. A confirmation dialog will appear, and then confirm the eject.
2. Local reads/writes should go direct to your Pogoplug. There are latency issues around wireless connections, but your wired case should be very fast, up to 30MB/sec depending on the connected drive format and type of data you are copying (lots of small files vs fewer large files). Can you send a note to support@pogoplug.com and let them know what you are seeing? They will help figure out what's going on.
3. Again, please contact support@pogoplug.com.
4. The finder window does not receive real-time events, but instead has to poll to look for new, deleted or changed files. The polling takes place every few minutes. You can click on the Pogoplug icon in the top status bar and click "reload" - this will force an update to the finder window.
The support team reads this forum and will respond very quickly as soon as you write in.
Hi everyone - I talked my client in NY into buying PogoPlug but it has not been a smooth process so far. I have several issues which I'll list in order if urgency:
1) Using the MacApp, I ejected the drive in an attempt to reset the whole connection. Once "ejected" I powered down the drive, then Pogo. Once I reconnected it I found that files did not show at all. So I connected the drive directly to the Mac and got a message that the Mac could not repair the drive and to backup and reformat ---- so what did I do wrong in ejecting the drive?
2) very slow local access. I have read many posts about this issue, but still not sure how to FIX it.We have a Mac connected via eternet directly to the LAN port of the wireless router. The Pogo is plugged via ethernet into the asjacent LAN port. My client has FIOS 20/20 connection but the speed is painfully slow slow. The external drive is an OWC 1T x2 Raid0 external drive. A 1GB file copy can take 5 minutes (and has taken longer).
3) We are getting a lot or -36 errors, and a few permission errors, when copying files (especially when copying more than one file) and sometimes it will copy the files, but the copy really didn't happen properly and we have a shell of a file on the Pogo drive. My client's confidence is shaken and his patience is running thin and this is starting to impact production of his product. This is not a boot drive.
4) When accessing the drive from Atlanta, the finder window does not update with new files unless I completely sign out of Pogo and then sign back in. Is this normal?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
